13-Week Contract | Full-Time Days | Bethesda, Maryland
We are seeking one experienced Registered Nurse to provide safe, patient-centered care in the 5SW Day Hospital at the NIH Clinical Center. This is a 13-week contract assignment with the possibility of a long-term or permanent full-time opportunity based on performance and continued staffing needs.
Schedule
Full-time day shift
Four 10-hour shifts per week or five 8-hour shifts per week
40 hours per week
Final schedule will be based on the unit’s staffing requirements
Minimum Qualifications
Active, valid, and unrestricted RN license issued by at least one U.S. state, territory, or commonwealth
Associate degree, nursing diploma, or bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited institution
Successful completion of the NCLEX-RN
At least two years of current acute-care hospital nursing experience
Current Basic Life Support certification
ACLS certification if required by the client
Demonstrated current clinical competency
Effective English communication skills
Computer literacy and proficiency with electronic clinical documentation
U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent resident/Green Card status
Primary Responsibilities
Assess, plan, provide, and evaluate nursing care for patients receiving day-hospital services
Complete patient intake, medication reconciliation, focused assessments, and clinical screening
Prepare patients for scheduled treatments, infusions, procedures, or diagnostic services
Administer medications, fluids, blood products, and other treatments as ordered and within the RN’s authorized scope of practice
Monitor patients during treatment and promptly respond to changes, complications, or adverse reactions
Review clinical information, laboratory results, treatment orders, and discharge requirements
Coordinate care with physicians, nurses, pharmacists, laboratory personnel, and other healthcare professionals
Educate patients and families regarding treatments, medications, side effects, discharge instructions, and follow-up care
Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential clinical documentation
Follow NIH clinical protocols, infection-control practices, patient-safety requirements, and professional standards
Participate in required orientation, training, and competency activities
Float to another patient-care area when needed, provided the assignment is within the RN’s demonstrated competency and scope of practice
Additional Requirements
Selected candidates must satisfy NIH credentialing, health, immunization, security, fingerprinting, background-investigation, and facility-access requirements. All licenses, certifications, competencies, and health documentation must remain current throughout the assignment.
