About the Role:

The Construction Manager, Soft Craft, is responsible for the overall planning, execution, and successful delivery of industrial soft craft projects, including insulation, scaffolding, painting and coatings, fireproofing, heat tracing, and other specialty services. This position provides leadership and oversight for field operations across maintenance, turnaround, outage, and capital project environments within refineries, petrochemical facilities, power generation plants, manufacturing facilities, terminals, and other industrial settings. The Construction Manager is responsible for ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with client requirements, contractual obligations, and company standards. This role works closely with clients, project managers, superintendents, field supervisors, subcontractors, and support departments to drive operational excellence, workforce productivity, quality workmanship, and customer satisfaction.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field preferred; equivalent combination of education and industry experience may be substituted.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of progressive experience in industrial construction, maintenance, turnaround, outage, or capital project environments.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience managing industrial soft craft operations, including insulation, scaffolding, painting and coatings, fireproofing, heat tracing, and related specialty services.
  • Demonstrated experience managing project budgets, schedules, manpower planning, subcontractors, and client relationships.
  • Working knowledge of industrial construction methods, safety regulations, quality standards, and project controls.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, contracts, and project schedules.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and construction/project management software.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required customer site access credentials, safety training, and certifications.
  • Ability to travel to various job sites and work overtime, weekends, or outage schedules as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge of industrial soft craft services, including insulation, scaffolding, coatings, fireproofing, and heat tracing.
  • Knowledge of industrial maintenance, turnaround, outage, and capital project execution.
  • Strong understanding of OSHA regulations, industrial safety practices, and client-specific safety requirements.
  • Ability to effectively lead, develop, and manage supervisors, craft personnel, and subcontractors.
  • Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, cost control, and productivity management.
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and time management skills.
  • Ability to analyze project performance metrics and implement corrective actions when necessary.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with clients, employees, vendors, and leadership.
  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and conflict-resolution abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced industrial environment.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, operational excellence, and customer satisfaction.

Essential Functions

  • Lead and manage all phases of industrial soft craft projects from planning through completion.
  • Develop project execution plans, schedules, manpower forecasts, and resource allocation plans to support project objectives.
  • Manage project budgets, labor productivity, cost controls, and overall financial performance.
  • Ensure compliance with all company, client, regulatory, and safety requirements.
  • Direct and coordinate field supervision, craft labor, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure safe and efficient project execution.
  • Monitor project progress and implement corrective actions to address schedule delays, cost overruns, quality concerns, or productivity issues.
  • Conduct routine jobsite visits, field audits, and quality inspections to ensure compliance with project specifications and company standards.
  • Establish and maintain strong client relationships through effective communication, responsiveness, and project execution.
  • Support estimating activities, bid reviews, project planning, and scope development as required.
  • Identify and mitigate operational, financial, contractual, and safety risks.
  • Review and approve project reports, staffing plans, timekeeping records, change orders, and other project documentation.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Safety, Human Resources, Payroll, Procurement, and other support departments to ensure successful project execution.
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement throughout all project activities.
  • Participate in client meetings, planning sessions, and project reviews as required.
  • Other duties as assigned

Physical Demands

  • Ability to frequently walk, stand, climb stairs, ladders, and scaffolding, and navigate active industrial construction sites.
  • Ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, and pull up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to work in industrial and outdoor environments.
  • Ability to visually inspect work areas, equipment, and project activities.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to:
    • Hard hat, gloves, safety glasses, face shield
    • Respiratory protection (including full-face mask)
    • Fall protection harness
    • Specialized protective suits (e.g., chemical/acid suits)

Work Environment

  • Work is performed in a combination of office, client, and industrial field environments.
  • Regular exposure to active construction sites, refineries, petrochemical facilities, manufacturing plants, power generation facilities, terminals, and other industrial locations.
  • Exposure to varying temperatures, noise levels, dust, vibration, and other conditions commonly associated with industrial construction environments.
  • May require extended work hours, weekends, holidays, and turnaround or outage schedules based on business and project demands.
  • Frequent interaction with clients, subcontractors, vendors, craft personnel, and company leadership.
  • Travel may be required to support multiple projects and operating locations
