Summary:

The Director of Sales is a senior leadership role that serves as the key commercial interface between customers and internal teams, ensuring customer requirements are clearly understood and effectively transitioned into production. This role manages the customer lifecycle from RFQ and quotation through order execution and delivery, with oversight of customer commitments, project priorities, schedules, commercial requirements, and delivery risks.

Working closely with Business Development, Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, Planning, and Operations, this position leads the RFQ and quoting process, develops strategic customer relationships, and drives cross-functional execution to meet customer commitments. The role is accountable for revenue, bookings, gross margin, forecasting, and customer experience and requires a technically credible and commercially minded leader who can operate effectively in a fast-paced, high-precision manufacturing environment. The Director of Sales works closely with the Director of Business Development and reports to the VP of Sales of the i3D parent company.

Key Responsibilities:

RFQ, Quoting, and Order Management

  • Lead the RFQ process from receipt through quotation and order handover, coordinating with Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing to ensure customer requirements, pricing, manufacturability, and delivery commitments are clearly understood and aligned.
  • Drive quote follow-up and improve quote-to-order conversion, maintaining CRM accuracy, forecasting, and a healthy opportunity pipeline.
  • Promote value-added services including CNC machining, heat treating, hot isostatic pressing, finishing, inspection, assembly, and engineering support to maximize account value.

Project and Order Execution

  • Maintain oversight of customer orders throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring commercial and technical requirements are effectively transitioned into production and customer commitments, schedules, and deliverables remain on track.
  • Serve as a primary customer contact throughout execution, managing meetings, action items, changes, timelines, contractual commitments, and outstanding deliverables while proactively communicating risks or issues.
  • Ensure projects comply with internal processes, documentation standards, and applicable regulatory requirements, maintaining accurate project records within the ERP system and related tools.
  • Act as a focal point for compliance with applicable trade and export control requirements, including the Canada Controlled Goods Program, ITAR, and CMMC, and manage customer documentation using appropriate secure file-transfer practices.

Cross-Functional Coordination and Communication

  • Act as the primary commercial conduit between customers and internal departments, providing timely project and pipeline updates and maintaining alignment on priorities and deliverables.
  • Drive collaboration across Sales, Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Planning, and Operations to maintain alignment on customer priorities and proactively resolve schedule, delivery, technical, or quality risks

Sales Leadership and Commercial Strategy

  • Own the full commercial process from lead through order execution and the customer product life duration, delivering against revenue, bookings, and gross margin objectives..
  • Review pricing strategy and commercial terms to support profitable growth, approving quotations within established company authority and escalating exceptions as required.
  • Support annual sales forecasting, budgeting, and resource planning, escalating significant commercial risks and recommending corrective actions or resource requirements as needed.
  • Ensure sales procedures are consistently followed and continuously improved to support efficiency, customer service, and sales performance.

Customer Development

  • Support and grow high value existing accounts, developing annual account growth plans and identifying cross-selling opportunities across Burloak’s service portfolio.
  • Conduct Quarterly Business Reviews for strategic customers, building executive-level relationships and positioning Burloak as a long-term manufacturing partner.
  • Translate customer needs into compelling value propositions and drive measurable growth in both existing customer revenue and new customer acquisition.

Team Leadership and Development

  • Coach and develop the Program/ Project Team through regular feedback, performance management, development planning, and succession planning.
  • Lead weekly project meetings and pipeline reviews, establish priorities, and ensure customer opportunities receive appropriate support.
  • Support the recruitment and onboarding of future Program/ Project Team members and ensure appropriate training and development while fostering a culture of accountability, professionalism, customer focus, and continuous improvement.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned to support departmental and organizational objectives.
Requirements:

Technical Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 8+ years of progressive experience in a customer-facing commercial, sales, program management, or similar leadership role within a B2B manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex customer requirements from RFQ and pricing through order close, production handover, execution, and delivery, including margin management, forecasting, scheduling, and customer deliverables.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate cross-functional technical and operational teams to manage customer priorities, project risks, schedules, and delivery commitments.
  • Proficiency with CRM and ERP systems for pipeline forecasting, order management, project tracking, and reporting.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent commercial and customer delivery priorities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build executive-level customer relationships and present confidently at all levels of an organization.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products including MS Project, Excel, Outlook, and Word.

Industry & Functional Knowledge

  • Experience in aerospace, defence, space, or other custom-engineered, regulated manufacturing environments is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of metal additive manufacturing and precision machining processes and how they translate into customer value is considered a strong asset.
  • Familiarity with contractual requirements, purchase order management, customer-facing project coordination, and the integration of customer schedules with production planning.
  • Familiarity with trade and export control requirements including the Canada Controlled Goods Program, ITAR, and CMMC.

Education and Professional Attributes

  • A bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, operations management, or a related field is required; equivalent experience will also be considered.
  • Project management certification such as PMP or CAPM is considered an asset.

Compensation:

We offer a competitive compensation package, including a base salary starting at $125,000 CAD annually, plus eligibility to participate in our Variable Compensation Incentive Plan. Final compensation will be determined based on the successful candidate’s experience, industry expertise, leadership background, qualifications, and ability to contribute to business growth.
