Job Description:
About the Team:

Dow Jones is building something ambitious in video, rooted in the authority of The Wall Street Journal, Barron's, MarketWatch, and Investor's Business Daily, and designed for how audiences actually watch business news now. This is a rare opportunity to help build the technical foundation of a cutting-edge business. This role works hand-in-hand with the technology team, extending the company's existing platforms and engineering expertise into a new streaming context.

About the Role:

We are looking for a builder who thinks in systems. This is not a role running an established function, but rather designing the architecture a new network will run on. You are part architect, part technical product leader, part editorial partner. You will work closely with the existing team to recommend and define the tech stack, build the pipelines that connect our studio and newsrooms to our screens, and advise on the methods that determine how fast and how well we will operate. You will take the lead on crafting the architecture and systems brief with input from the technology team at Dow Jones and then execute against it. You will help choose the tools, integrate them, and prove what works in production before we scale it.
We are looking for someone entrepreneurial and collaborative who will build the bridge between the world's most trusted financial data and editorial reporting and the intelligent automation that will research, clip, and optimize our content in real-time and will take this responsibility seriously.

You Will:
  • Architect the end-to-end tech stack for the network, in partnership with the Dow Jones technology team, which will include: editorial and video production workflow tooling, clip generation, talent prep, post-production automation, and audience-facing applications.
  • Recommend build-versus-buy decisions across the stack and evaluate vendors, working with procurement, security, and engineering standards and leveraging our enterprise platforms where they fit.
  • Work directly with the Head of Programming to integrate new systems into the editorial workflow from day one, selecting and designing tools that match how the team actually produces shows rather than how it has been done historically.
  • Design and oversee the implementation of the pipelines integrating with Dow Jones data, CMS, and publishing infrastructure that turn long-form editorial output into clips, summaries, and derivative formats at the speed streaming distribution requires.
  • Collaborate on the standards for how new technology is used inside editorial workflows, including AI provenance, accuracy checks, and the guardrails that protect Dow Jones journalism from the failure modes the rest of the industry is still learning about.
  • Serve as the technical owner of the control room during launch, establishing systems and workflows before the function scales.
  • Advise leadership across Dow Jones on emerging methods, models, and tools, and translate what is real from what is hype with the same rigor we apply to a sourced number.
  • Be conversant in modern LLM stacks and in rights/safety constraints around AI in a news environment.

You Have:
  • 12+ years of experience.
  • A track record building infrastructure from scratch in a production environment, ideally one with editorial, creative, or media output on the other end.
  • Experience designing or supporting live production environments, including studio operations, automation, or streaming infrastructure.
  • Deep hands-on technical fluency. You are technically fluent enough to evaluate architecture, understand implementation details, and lead complex systems integrations. You have done these things recently, not just managed people who do them.
  • Strong judgment on what to build, what to buy, and what to wait on. You have opinions about the current model landscape and you can defend them.
  • Experience working alongside editorial, creative, or production teams, with the patience and translation skills that it requires.
  • A working understanding of the modern media production stack.
  • The ability to move fast without compromising integrity and quality.
  • You have a builder's comfort with ambiguity. You do not need a roadmap to exist before you can operate.
  • A genuine point of view on where this technology is going and how a newsroom should use it.
