Job Description

Activities Coordinator

Under the direction and supervision of the Director of Resident Services, the Activities Coordinator plans, organizes, and implements activities which stress recreation, diversion, and intellectual/educational development for Residents; manages the day-to-day concerns of the Residents.
Plans and implements a program of activities which will provide entertainment, communication, exercise, relaxation, opportunity to express creative talent and to fulfill basic psychological, physical, intellectual, social and spiritual needs.
Maintains driver’s license and safe driving record.
Assists with transporting residents to on and off-site activities and appointments. Loads and unloads residents into vehicles.
Notifies Supervisor of changes, problems, difficulty, errors or occurrences with a resident.
Encourages, plans, implements, and evaluates craft activities and hobbies among residents and groups in the common areas, in the Craft/Activity Rooms and in resident rooms.
Assists with transporting residents in wheelchairs to activities.
Maintains a safe environment for all residents under his/her supervision and participates in facility safety program.
Encourages and implements social programs which will provide communication among residents through group activities and recreations.
Assists in scheduling and showing movies, obtaining films from providers and operating audio/visual equipment.
Assists in organizing trips including securing tickets and making reservations as needed.
Encourages and plans intellectual/educational development through literature, records, movies, cultural events, etc.
Encourages residents to participate in religious activities to fulfill their basic spiritual needs.
Maintains activities bulletin boards throughout the facility.
Assists in development of weekly and monthly schedules and calendars of activities.
Maintains appropriate documentation and record keeping.
Works with new residents to assure their orientation and involvement in activities.
Assists with personal shopping for residents.
Participates in care planning to regularly contribute to resident evaluation and monitoring.

Minimal Education:
High School graduate or equivalent.

Minimal Experience:
Valid driver's license, and ability to meet Abernethy Laurel's auto insurance carrier's standards for coverage.
Experience working in a skilled nursing or assisted living setting.

Other Qualifications:
One year experience with recreational programming in a geriatric setting preferred.
