Job Summary:

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Superintendent supports the daily operation of the Maintenance Department by coordinating maintenance activities, supervising maintenance personnel, and ensuring equipment, facilities, and infrastructure operate safely and efficiently. This position provides hands-on leadership to Maintenance Technicians and serves as a working supervisor who assists with preventive maintenance programs, troubleshooting, continuous improvement initiatives, and departmental objectives.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and provide daily direction to Maintenance Technicians and assigned maintenance personnel.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining work schedules to ensure adequate departmental coverage.
  • Coordinate and prioritize maintenance work orders to support production and facility requirements.
  • Monitor completion of preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities.
  • Troubleshoot equipment failures and work directly with technicians to identify root causes and corrective actions.
  • Ensure maintenance activities are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company standards.
  • Enforce all safety policies, procedures, and safe work instructions.
  • Assist with planning and execution of equipment installations, upgrades, and facility improvement projects.
  • Coordinate vendor activities, contractor services, and outside maintenance support as required.
  • Monitor facility conditions and identify opportunities for equipment reliability and process improvement.
  • Assist in maintaining records, work orders, equipment history, and maintenance documentation.
  • Support equipment standardization initiatives and continuous improvement programs.
  • Assist with planning maintenance shutdowns and scheduled outages.
  • Train, coach, and develop maintenance personnel while promoting cross-training opportunities.
  • Assist with inventory management of maintenance supplies, tools, and replacement parts.
  • Communicate maintenance priorities and equipment status to production, engineering, and leadership teams.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental, health, safety, and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in emergency response activities and provide support during equipment downtime events.
  • Perform activities of workers supervised when operational needs require.

Requirements:

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of industrial maintenance practices, equipment troubleshooting, and repair techniques.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and automated systems.
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and employee development skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple assignments and respond effectively to changing production needs.
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Understanding of OSHA, MIOSHA, environmental, and safety requirements.
  • Knowledge of preventive maintenance, predictive maintenance, and reliability-centered maintenance principles.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Direct supervision of Maintenance Technicians and assigned maintenance personnel. Provides daily leadership, training, work assignments, performance coaching, and support while assisting the Maintenance Manager in achieving departmental goals.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Technical certification, apprenticeship, or vocational training preferred.
  • 5-7 years of maintenance experience, preferably within a manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum 2 years of leadership, lead technician, or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting industrial equipment and facility systems.

Work Environment:

  • The job works in conditions with frequent exposure to noise, dust, vibration, oils, chemicals, and moving mechanical equipment. PPE is required.
  • May include seasonally hot, cold, and humid conditions for extended periods of time.
  • Work may be performed indoors and outdoors depending on operational needs.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 55 lbs.
  • Standing: 90-100%
  • Walking: 50%
  • Bending/Twisting: 40%
  • Reaching: 10%
  • Lifting: 15%
  • Stooping: 5%

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position. General days and hours of work are Monday through Friday; however, flexibility is required based on production demands. Employee may be required to work weekends, overtime, or outside normal business hours to support maintenance activities and emergency repairs.

Travel:

Occasional travel to training, supplier, contractor, or other company locations may be required.
