Summary:

The Township of Montclair is seeking a Temporary Part-Time Animal ControlOfficer to join the Animal Shelter team. If you are passionate about animal care and serving the community, we invite you to apply!

The ACO is responsible for handling wild and stray domesticated animals and birds; caring for impounded animals; and cleaning and maintaining the shelter. The position performs related duties as required. Work is performed under the generaldirection/supervision of the Animal Shelter Director or their designee, whoreviews work for effectiveness.

Responsibilities:

• Patrols the streets, captures and impounds strayanimals, wild game, birds, and unlicensed dogs.
  
• Cares for and feeds animals in the shelter andobserves their physical condition and behavior; contacts the veterinarian whennecessary.
  
• Uses nets, traps, or a tranquilizer gun to capturewild animals or strayed domesticated pets. Captures and impounds animalssuspected of being rabid and observes their condition; humanely destroys rabid animals and takes their remains to State Health Clinic for analysis.
  
• Handles complaints regarding wild and strayanimals, and licensed and unlicensed domesticated animals and investigatesalleged violations of state anti- cruelty statutes
  
• Enforces the rabies control program and issuessummonses for violations of local or state animal control ordinances.
• Cleans andmaintains sanitation of the animal shelter; promotes the adoption of animalsand arranges for their spaying and neutering; maintains files and records.

Minimum Requirements:

High School graduate or GED equivalent

One (1) year of experience inanimal control. Several years of relevant experience may be substituted for education.

A current and valid Animal Control Officer Certificate issued by the New Jersey Department of Health.

A current New Jersey driver's license is required.

Must be available for off-hours on-call rotation.

Rate: $19.68 per hour; temporary part-time position. This position does not include health benefits and is eligible for NJ Sick Leave in accordance with applicable law.
