Position Summary
The Surgical Housekeeper is primarily responsible for cleaning all areas of the surgical center, cleaning surgical instruments, sterile processing, and assistance with operating room turnover.
Essential Duties/Functions
- Responsible for cleaning the operating rooms after cases
- Responsible for cleaning surgical instruments after cases
- Responsible for sterile processing of surgical instruments
- Will provide assistance with operating room turnover
- Will clean the procedure rooms, patient rooms, restrooms, corridors, and floors
- Follow all state, federal and/or local health and safety rules, laws, and regulations
- Room patients
- Restock ORs and exam rooms
- Unpack supplies delivered
- Stock IV trays
- Check sharps boxes and change any that are full
- Empty all linen/biohazard bags
- Eyewash log
- Fridge log
- Freezer log
- Assist front desk coordinator to room patients
- Assemble paperwork
- Chaperone in patient appointments (preop and postop)
- Wheeling patient out after surgery discharge
- Additional job duties as assigned.
Education
High school diploma or equivalent
Medical Assistant (MA) degree preferable
Interpersonal Skills and Attributes
- Bilingual English and Spanish is a plus
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding patient health information
- Ability to focus on patient safety, teamwork, patient outcomes, patient experience and quality improvement
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Strong communication skills: written and verbal and interpersonal
- Flexible, reliable, patient-oriented, and self-motivated
- Ability to work under stressful conditions due to deadlines and time constraints
- Professional behavior/appearance required
- Ability to work within a team setting in accordance with our overall mission and goal
