Part-Time GeoTechnician I at Harrisburg University – Harrisburg, Pennsylvania

Responsibilities:

Harrisburg University of Science and Technology is seeking multiple part-time GeoTechnician I’s to support the Center for Applied Environmental & Geospatial Technology’s work on a well identification project through the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).These positions will report directly to the Center’s Director–Craig Lewis but will work closely with Consultants Robert Wilson and Dr. John Benhart, as well as SME Zach Hollingshad, to ensure project goals are met. The GeoTechnician I’s will be responsible for digitizing oil and gas wells, and various associated attributes, from a collection of underground abandoned coal mine maps, as well as other non-mine maps provided by DEP. Special attention should be paid to the types of wells being digitized, as well as proximity to other wells that may already exist in the DEP database. All work completed by the GeoTechnician I’s will be monitored by both the Center Director, Craig Lewis, and Bob Wilson.

Qualifications:

Required:

Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, geography, or related field, with extensive coursework in GIS/Geospatial Technology

Minimum1yearexperiencewithArcGISsoftware

Familiarity or interest with historic map collections–specifically underground mine maps

Familiarity, or interest in learning, oil and gas well terminology

Comfortable with a dynamic environment that sometimes requires independent and repetitive work and other times requires multi-tasking and working in a team environment

Ability to create detailed geospatial data with appropriate attributes
