About This Position

PTA

JOB SUMMARY
  • The provision of optimum assistance to the Physical Therapist in the treatment of the Physical Therapy patient/resident. Provides skilled services to patients/residents under the guidance of licensed physical therapists under physician’s orders to restore or improve the functional level of the patients/residents. PTA provides direct patient care to pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients/residents.
EDUCATION
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of physical therapy, as demonstrated by graduation from a college program with an associate’s degree in Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA).
  • May substitute license through 1976 Physical Therapy Law for the State of West Virginia for associate degree.
  • Knowledge of Medicare/Insurance coverage criteria for therapy services, the ability to apply the same in a manner that minimizes reimbursement denials, and facilitates quality patient care.
LICENSURE
  • Current state license, and registration to practice are required.
EXPERIENCE
  • N/A
CERTIFICATION
  • Current CPR certification.
COMPUTER/TYPING/MATH SKILLS
  • Organizational ability sufficient to complete and submit all required documentation of patient care within established time frames, facilitating coordination of care, and reimbursement of services.
JOB SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to work with physical therapists, physical therapy technicians, physicians, nurses, and other members of the health care team.
  • Work with patients and their families in establishing and implementing treatment programs.
  • Communication skills sufficient to write clinical policies and procedures for physical therapy assistant skills, and verbal skills sufficient to communicate procedures to other staff.
  • Must possess good verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to communicate with all hospital contacts both on the telephone and directly.
  • Analytical ability necessary to audit charts for documentation, quality assurance and utilization review purposes.
  • Ability to write clinical policies and procedures for physical therapy.
HOURS OF WORK
  • Must be able to work scheduled hours as dictated by business needs including flexing up and down to volume demand.
