About This Position

SUMMARY: Under general supervision, keeps hospital morgue and autopsy room equipment in a clean and orderly condition. Brings the remains of deceased patients to the morgue. Releases bodies to authorized persons, and performs related duties as required.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: NOTE: The following are duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each individual in this classification.

  • Willingness to handle remains of deceased patients.
  • Answers departmental telephone calls.
  • Keeps linen room stocked and order janitorial supplies, cleans specified rooms, and empties trash cans.
  • Keeps records of bodies brought to morgue.
  • Maintains morgue and autopsy room in a clean and orderly condition.
  • May present body to family for viewing in a dignified manner.
  • May transport patients on hospital grounds and render general assistance in patient's activity program.
  • May transport patients to and from homes, clinics or hospitals via ambulance.
  • Releases body to authorized person.
  • Replaces body in refrigerator and cleans autopsy room and sterilizes instruments.
  • Transports bodies of deceased patients from ward to morgue.
  • Performs all duties as described in AHS Postmortem Care and Procedures policy.
  • Performs related duties as required.

    • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Minimum Experience: Six months of recent experience in a morgue or mortuary, assisting in the preparation of bodies for burial desired. Required Licenses/Certifications: Possession of a valid California State Driver's License.
