Process Control Engineer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Process Control Engineer based in the United States.

This role provides technical leadership for process automation and digital manufacturing capabilities within a complex production environment.
You will serve as a subject matter expert for process control technologies while helping operations run safely, reliably, and efficiently.
The position combines hands-on troubleshooting, project leadership, system integration, governance, and continuous improvement.
You will guide process control software projects from concept through startup while coordinating internal teams and external resources when needed.
Your expertise will help strengthen automation standards, improve manufacturing performance, reduce technical risk, and preserve critical organizational knowledge.
You will collaborate with engineering, operations, maintenance, digital manufacturing, and operational technology teams across multiple levels of the organization.

Accountabilities:
  • Serve as the site subject matter expert for process control software technologies, providing technical leadership and guidance to operations, engineering, and maintenance teams.
  • Lead and manage process control software projects from initial concept through implementation and startup, including oversight of external contractors when required.
  • Provide advanced troubleshooting and technical support for control systems, process control applications, manufacturing data systems, and software-related production issues.
  • Support root cause investigations, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives by identifying and implementing software-based process enhancements.
  • Coach, mentor, and train internal employees on process control systems, engineering standards, troubleshooting approaches, and industry best practices.
  • Facilitate knowledge transfer and strengthen internal technical capabilities to improve knowledge retention and long-term system sustainability.
  • Maintain and improve integrations between process equipment, automation systems, manufacturing data platforms, and enterprise applications.
  • Ensure reliable information flow across connected manufacturing and enterprise systems.
  • Establish, document, and maintain process control software engineering standards, change management practices, and software lifecycle procedures.
  • Ensure process control practices align with applicable corporate, regulatory, cybersecurity, and compliance requirements.
  • Partner with site, regional, and global engineering, digital manufacturing, and operational technology teams to advance standardization, innovation, and operational excellence.
  • Support process control cybersecurity, compliance, and audit activities through effective governance, system hardening, access management, and adherence to established standards.
  • Manage multiple priorities effectively within a dynamic manufacturing environment while maintaining high standards of technical quality, reliability, and safety.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • At least 10 years of manufacturing experience in a technical engineering, automation, process control, or related environment.
  • Demonstrated expertise with DeltaV and PLC configuration, programming, troubleshooting, and process control systems.
  • Working knowledge of ISA-88 batch processing principles.
  • Strong understanding of process automation, manufacturing control systems, software engineering practices, and industrial technology environments.
  • Experience troubleshooting complex control-system and production issues and developing effective corrective actions.
  • Ability to manage process control projects from concept through startup and coordinate internal and external technical resources.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with operations, engineering, maintenance, and technical stakeholders.
  • Strong customer focus and the ability to provide practical, responsive technical support.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and technical challenges in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with PI Systems, SAP, MES, or comparable manufacturing and enterprise systems is preferred.
  • Experience in the chemical, pharmaceutical, agricultural, or another process-oriented manufacturing industry is advantageous.
  • Ability to contribute to process control cybersecurity, compliance, system governance, and audit activities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, combined with a continuous-improvement mindset.
  • Willingness and ability to work primarily on-site, with flexibility to work from home as needed.
  • Domestic relocation may be available for eligible candidates.
