RN-First Assist, Hendrick Clinic Bone and Joint

JOB SUMMARY |
The RNFA works in collaboration with the Physician and other health care team members to achieve optimal patient outcomes; has acquired the necessary knowledge, judgment, and skills specific to the expanded role of RNFA clinical practice and intraoperatively practices at the direction of the cardiologist. The RNFA is responsible for providing health care to patients in the hospital or office setting and works in consultation, cooperation and coordination through a collaborative physician.

JOB REQUIREMENTS |
Minimum Education
- Successful completion of a RNFA course and clinical internship that meets AORN standards for RN first assistant education programs.
- Has a baccalaureate degree obtained before January 1, 2020 with the exception that the RNFA practicing prior to January 1, 2020.
Minimum Work Experience
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in the Cardiac Cath Lab setting with both scrubbing and circulating. Minimum of 2 years should be spent in the scrub position.
Required Licenses/Certifications
- Current CNOR (certification in perioperative nursing)
- Certification in BLS/ACLS
- Compliance with all applicable statutes, regulations, and institutional policies relevant to RNFAs
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of surgical processes.
- Knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
- Knowledge of information that must be conveyed to patients and families.
- Skill in performing as First Assist.
- Skill, tact and diplomacy in interpersonal interactions.
- Skill in understanding patient education needs by effectively sharing information with patients and families.
- Ability to learn and retain information regarding patient care and surgical procedures.
- Ability to project a pleasant and professional image.
- Ability to plan, prioritize, and complete delegated tasks.
- Ability to demonstrate compassion and caring in dealing with others.
