Job Description
This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Senior Cloud Database Engineer in United States.
This role sits at the core of a high-scale, cloud-native financial technology platform responsible for processing billions of transactions globally. The engineer will design, optimize, and automate mission-critical database systems that ensure performance, availability, and resilience across distributed environments. Operating within a highly collaborative cloud engineering team, the role focuses on advancing AWS-based database infrastructure, improving scalability, and driving reliability through automation-first principles. It is an opportunity to influence the evolution of large-scale relational and NoSQL systems supporting real-time financial services. The environment is fast-paced, deeply technical, and centered on continuous improvement and operational excellence. The role also involves close collaboration with application, platform, and SRE teams to ensure seamless data operations across the organization.
- Own and evolve cloud database systems supporting high-scale, real-time transactional platforms, ensuring reliability, availability, and performance across distributed environments.
- Design and implement database architecture solutions including high availability, disaster recovery, replication, partitioning, and sharding strategies.
- Automate database lifecycle management for cloud-native environments, with a strong focus on AWS services such as Aurora, MySQL, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, and related tooling.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to analyze performance, resolve incidents, conduct root cause analysis, and implement long-term remediation strategies.
- Develop infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD pipelines to streamline deployments, improve consistency, and reduce manual operational overhead.
- Build and enhance monitoring, alerting, and observability frameworks using modern tooling to ensure proactive system health management.
- Contribute to architectural decision-making, technical documentation, and cross-functional alignment on database strategy and evolution.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to engineering best practices, standards, and continuous improvement initiatives.
This role requires strong experience in backend and cloud database engineering, ideally within high-scale, distributed systems environments. Candidates should bring deep expertise in cloud-native databases (particularly AWS), strong SQL proficiency, and hands-on experience with automation, infrastructure, and performance tuning. You should be comfortable working across engineering, platform, and operations teams in a highly collaborative and ownership-driven environment.
- 5+ years of backend or database engineering experience, or 7+ years of equivalent professional experience in lieu of a degree
- Strong experience with AWS cloud databases including Aurora, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and NoSQL systems such as DynamoDB or MongoDB
- Solid understanding of database internals, query optimization, indexing, replication, and distributed systems design
- Experience with high availability, disaster recovery, and cloud-based fault-tolerant architectures
- Proficiency in Python and strong familiarity with Linux environments and shell scripting
- Hands-on experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform) and CI/CD pipelines
- Experience with monitoring and observability platforms such as Datadog
- Strong automation mindset with a focus on reducing manual operations and improving system reliability
- Excellent communication skills, strong ownership mentality, and ability to work cross-functionally
- Nice to have: experience in FinTech or payments, database migrations, ProxySQL or RDS Proxy, and AI-assisted tooling
- Competitive base salary range: $144,100 – $180,100 USD
- Annual performance-based bonus eligibility
- Equity in a publicly traded company and employee stock purchase program
- Multiple medical, dental, and vision insurance options
- Flexible time off and remote-first work model
- Retirement savings plan with company contributions
- Family-forming benefits, fertility support, and generous parental leave
- Wellness support including therapy sessions, financial coaching, and legal assistance
- Monthly remote work stipend and annual learning & development budget
- Inclusive, flexible work environment with global collaboration opportunities
