Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC) is seeking a motivated Staff Professional with 1+ years of experience to join our growing Cartersville, GA office This position requires a working knowledge of land surveying principles, survey data processing, and computer-aided drafting. The ideal candidate will work closely with surveyors, project managers, and design teams to produce accurate and high-quality survey deliverables for a variety of public and private sector projects throughout Georgia.
Role Responsibilities
- Support Project Surveyors, Survey Managers, Project Engineers, and Project Managers with survey and CADD-related tasks for projects spanning planning, design, permitting, and construction phases.
- Research and interpret deeds, plats, easements, right-of-way maps, and previous survey records to assist with preparation of survey exhibits, base mapping, and construction staking information.
- Process and organize field survey data to support the development of accurate survey drawings and project deliverables in accordance with company standards and Georgia surveying practices.
- Utilize AutoCAD Civil 3D to prepare and revise topographic surveys, base maps, ALTA/NSPS surveys, subdivision plats, easement exhibits, digital terrain models, and construction staking drawings.
- Produce accurate CAD deliverables, technical exhibits, and supporting documentation while adhering to company CAD standards, QA/QC procedures, and field-to-finish workflows.
- Coordinate with survey crews, engineers, project managers, and other team members to complete assigned tasks and maintain project schedules and priorities.
- Maintain organized project files, survey documentation, and CAD records in accordance with company protocols and project requirements.
- Assist with data preparation and drafting support for construction layout, staking activities, permitting efforts, and other project-related deliverables.
- Communicate effectively with internal team members and escalate technical questions or project concerns to senior staff as appropriate.
- Demonstrate professionalism in interactions with coworkers, clients, and agencies while continuing to develop technical skills, CAD proficiency, and industry knowledge.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field from an ABET-accredited university.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, including survey databases, survey figures, auto-linework, and surface generation.
- Working knowledge of Georgia land surveying practices, including boundary surveys, topographic surveys, subdivision platting, easement exhibits, rights-of-way, and utility mapping.
- Understanding of construction plans and the preparation of data for field layout and staking activities.
- Ability to prepare accurate printed and electronic survey deliverables while maintaining strong attention to detail and adherence to established QA/QC procedures.
- Strong organizational, time management, and multitasking skills with the ability to manage individual assignments and support multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently with general direction while collaborating effectively with project teams, supervisors, and multidisciplinary staff.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to contribute effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Familiarity with MicroStation, GIS platforms, and survey field software is preferred but not required.
- Commitment to continuous professional development and maintaining knowledge of current technical practices and industry standards.
- Comfortable performing fieldwork and site observations in varying environmental and construction conditions while adhering to required PPE and safety protocols.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites as needed.
- Ability to work in a primarily office-based environment (approximately 80%) with occasional field responsibilities (approximately 20%).
