This role is a key technical bridge between field operations and engineering, focused on solving complex vehicle system issues that go beyond standard service capabilities. You will support field service representatives and dealer networks by diagnosing advanced failures and delivering engineering-level solutions. Operating at the intersection of manufacturing, product engineering, and customer support, you will help improve product reliability and performance across current and future vehicle platforms. The position involves hands-on troubleshooting, deep technical analysis, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to resolve systemic issues. You will also contribute to design improvements through PLM-driven updates and field feedback loops. This is a high-impact role where your expertise directly improves safety, uptime, and product quality in critical transportation systems.

Accountabilities:
  • Provide advanced engineering-level technical support to Field Service Representatives and dealer networks for complex vehicle issues.
  • Diagnose and resolve chassis, body, electrical, and powertrain system failures using structured troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
  • Lead and manage PLM-driven design updates and field service improvement initiatives to prevent recurring failures.
  • Collaborate with technical publications and training teams to develop accurate service manuals, troubleshooting guides, and repair instructions.
  • Stay current on new vehicle systems and technologies to ensure effective field support and guidance.
  • Support field campaigns and contribute to continuous improvement of product quality and reliability.
  • Assist other engineers in resolving escalated technical challenges across field operations.
  • Translate field issues into actionable engineering insights for future product development.
Requirements

The ideal candidate brings strong automotive or medium-duty truck engineering experience, with deep expertise in diagnostics, vehicle systems, and OEM-level technical support. You should be comfortable working independently in fast-paced field environments while collaborating closely with engineering and service teams.

  • 8–10+ years of experience in school bus or medium-duty truck environments, including OEM technical service support.
  • 5+ years of experience providing engineering-level troubleshooting within an automotive or manufacturing context.
  • Strong technical knowledge of chassis, electrical systems, powertrain, and vehicle diagnostics.
  • Experience with CAN communication protocols (J1939) and advanced diagnostic tools (e.g., Allison DOC, Cummins InSite, Bendix ACOM, etc.).
  • Familiarity with advanced diagnostic platforms such as oscilloscopes and CAN analysis tools (e.g., Vector, PEAK).
  • Strong root cause analysis skills with the ability to resolve complex and recurring system failures.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize issues, and deliver timely engineering solutions in field environments.
  • Willingness to travel based on operational and customer needs.
  • Bachelor’s degree in automotive engineering or related field preferred, or equivalent hands-on experience.
Benefits
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) retirement plan with company match
  • Paid time off and 14 paid holidays annually
  • Continued professional development opportunities
  • Flexible work environment and scheduling options
  • Collaborative, mission-driven engineering culture
  • Exposure to advanced vehicle technologies and innovation initiatives
  • Opportunity to directly impact product safety, reliability, and sustainability
