This hands-on field role plays a key part in the installation and maintenance of underground utility infrastructure supporting critical telecommunications and construction projects. You will operate directional drilling equipment to safely and efficiently install conduits and related systems in varied and often challenging environments. Working closely with site crews, you will help ensure projects are delivered on time, with strong attention to safety, precision, and quality. The role combines technical drilling expertise with teamwork and coordination in dynamic field conditions. It is ideal for someone who thrives in outdoor work, problem-solving on-site challenges, and contributing directly to essential infrastructure development. Travel to project sites is required, with work performed in all weather conditions. This is a physically active position where safety and reliability are paramount.
In this role, you will be responsible for executing directional drilling operations and supporting the installation of underground utility systems across telecommunications and infrastructure projects. You will ensure safe and efficient job site execution while coordinating closely with crew members and maintaining compliance with operational standards.
- Operate horizontal directional drilling equipment and locating tools safely and effectively for underground conduit installation.
- Perform box locating, conduit installation, and placement of pedestals, vaults, and enclosures as required.
- Coordinate drilling activities with site teams, responding to signals and instructions to ensure safe execution of work.
- Load, unload, and handle construction materials and equipment while maintaining a clean and organized worksite.
- Complete required daily documentation, ensuring accurate reporting of work progress and site activities.
- Follow all safety policies, CVOR guidelines, and industry regulations to maintain a strong safety-first culture.
- Support site preparation and cleanup, including debris removal and equipment handling.
This position requires proven experience in directional drilling and field-based utility construction, ideally within telecommunications environments. You must be comfortable working independently, operating heavy equipment, and adapting to changing site conditions while maintaining high safety standards.
- Prior experience in horizontal directional drilling and locating is required.
- Experience in telecommunications or utility construction is considered a strong asset.
- Valid AZ driver’s license with a clean driving abstract and CVOR is required.
- Strong understanding of safe equipment operation and field safety procedures.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in outdoor and physically demanding conditions.
- Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and working in confined spaces, at heights, and in all weather conditions.
- Strong teamwork, communication, and coordination skills in a field environment.
