JOB TITLE: Hunger Services Associate
EMPLOYER: Martin Luther King Community Center
DEPARTMENT: Hunger Services
REPORTS TO: Director of Hunger Services/Assistant Director of Hunger Services
EFFECTIVE DATE: 05/11/26
SCHEDULE: Monday thru Friday – 8am to 1pm
PAY: $20.00/hour
BENEFITS: Accrued Sick Time
SUMMARY:
As a Hunger Services Associate, you’ll be a vital component of the Martin Luther King Community Center’s mission of empowering the community and working to end hunger. You will help drive the success of our Hunger Services programs by managing essential daily operations and providing direct, compassionate support to our neighbors. Whether you’re setting up for our popular Produce to the People, receiving deliveries and donations, or working in our onsite food pantry, your work ensures that no one in our community goes hungry.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Receives and processes donations and deliveries.
- Assist in program preparation and execution
- Stock our onsite food pantry daily
- Maintains program inventory
- Drives the Center vehicles
- Works as a team member with MLK Center staff and particularly the Hunger Services staff.
- Performs phone work, and data entry.
- Performs light cleaning, and box recycling.
- Assists with other hunger services programming.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to three months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Employment contingent upon successful background screening.
- Certificates, licenses and registrations required:
- Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
- Computer skills required:
- Database Software
- Internet Software;
- Word Processing Software (Word);
- Electronic Mail Software (Outlook);
- Other skills required:
- Able to perform rigorous physical duties: lifting, carrying, moving items, climbing in/out of box truck and van, etc.
- Have courteous and intuitive interactions with clients, donors, and volunteers.
- Possess strong communication skills.
- Possess strong organizational skills.
- Have a strong desire to learn.
- Be sensitive to cultural and economic diversity.
- Microsoft Office proficiency is necessary.
