Responsibilities
Enterprise Technology (ET) Claims is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to design and implement solutions that improve the end-user experience, increase operational efficiency, reduce manual effort, and help Claims software product teams operate more effectively.
This is an exciting opportunity to work across ServiceNow, AI, automation, observability, and other enterprise technologies. The engineer will receive prioritized threads of work and be responsible for taking them from technical analysis and design through development, implementation, and support.
A significant focus will include ServiceNow Reporting and Analytics, Now Assist, Virtual Agent, ServiceNow AI Agents, automation, and emerging Model Context Protocol (MCP) capabilities. While ServiceNow will be a major part of the role, this position requires broad software engineering skills and the ability to work across multiple platforms and technologies, including Salesforce and cloud-based environments
Some Responsibilities May Include:
- Develop solutions that improve the end-to-end user experience, from the workstation and connectivity through the applications and services users rely on.
- Build reusable capabilities that improve product-team Run efficiency, reduce operational toil, strengthen diagnostics, and automate repeatable support activities.
- Design and develop ServiceNow solutions including reporting, analytics, workflows, integrations, automation, and operational dashboards.
- Develop and enhance solutions using Now Assist, Virtual Agent, ServiceNow AI Agents, MCP servers, and other emerging AI capabilities.
- Integrate ServiceNow with Salesforce, observability platforms, enterprise applications, cloud services, and on-premises technologies.
- Develop APIs, scripts, automation, and software components that support enterprise-scale solutions.
- Troubleshoot complex issues across applications, integrations, infrastructure, networks, and client environments.
- Take assigned engineering work from design through implementation, documentation, and production support.
- Apply DevOps, observability, reliability, and software engineering best practices.
- Collaborate with product teams, platform teams, infrastructure teams, support organizations, and business partners.
Qualifications
We Are Seeking Candidates With:
- ServiceNow Engineering Expertise — Strong hands-on experience with ServiceNow reporting/analytics, automation, workflows, integrations, Now Assist, Virtual Agent, and related platform capabilities.
- Software Engineering & Integration — Strong development skills with Java and/or Python/JavaScript, APIs, enterprise integrations, automation, and reusable solution design.
- AI & Automation Engineering — Ability to apply Now Assist, AI Agents, MCP, workflow automation, and intelligent tooling to improve support and operational processes.
- Technical Problem Solving — Ability to take an assigned problem, analyze it across multiple technology layers, determine the best technical approach, and deliver a production-ready solution.
- Observability & Operational Engineering — Experience using monitoring, telemetry, and operational data to improve the end-user experience, strengthen diagnostics, reduce operational toil, and make software product teams more effective.
- Strong analytical and technical problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work across multiple technology platforms and independently determine technical approaches for assigned work.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Primary engineering focus will include ServiceNow, Client, On-Premises, Salesforce, and Cloud platforms.
Additional Skills
- Experience with Agile development, DevOps, CI/CD, Git-based development, and Infrastructure as Code.
- Understanding of software architecture, design patterns, observability, performance engineering, SRE principles, and ITIL practices.
- Strong technical documentation skills including runbooks, troubleshooting guides, architecture diagrams, technical designs, and knowledge articles.

Because work-life balance is a priority at State Farm, compensation is based on our standard 38:45-hour work week!
- Potential starting salary range: $107,000 - $160,000
- Starting salary will be based on skills, background, and experience. **High end of the range limited to applicants with significant relevant experience**
