Appian Architect (FMS)

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Appian Architect (FMS) based in United States.

As an Appian Architect, you will lead the design and delivery of enterprise software solutions supporting complex business and mission requirements. You will work closely with clients, product owners, and stakeholders to translate business needs into scalable Appian applications and effective BPM solutions. The role combines technical architecture, hands-on development leadership, resource management, and mentorship within an Agile environment. You will guide teams through complex projects while ensuring that application components, integrations, and technical decisions align with broader enterprise objectives. This position also offers the opportunity to evaluate emerging technologies and introduce solutions that address functional and technical gaps. Accountabilities:
  • Lead and manage resources across complex Appian software development projects, ensuring effective planning, execution, and delivery.
  • Collaborate closely with clients, product owners, and stakeholders to understand requirements and design software solutions aligned with business needs.
  • Provide technical leadership across Appian architecture, development, process modeling, user interface design, and data modeling.
  • Lead requirement discovery and apply BPM best practices to the design and development of enterprise applications.
  • Guide development teams in building, reviewing, and deploying high-quality Appian applications and components.
  • Evaluate Appian objects, pull requests, and technical changes in the context of the broader application architecture, identifying major logic or integration issues.
  • Oversee database and system integration activities and ensure effective communication of technical requirements across enterprise applications.
  • Identify, assess, and recommend new or alternative technologies to address technical and functional gaps.
  • Mentor and develop junior and senior Appian developers, sharing technical expertise and promoting strong development practices.
  • Support project planning, execution, delivery, and financial management for assigned work areas.
  • Apply experience across different industries and business environments to strengthen project planning and solution delivery.
  • Maintain current knowledge of Appian capabilities, emerging development practices, and relevant technology trends.
  • Communicate project status, technical decisions, risks, and recommendations clearly to clients and stakeholders.

Requirements:

  • 9+ years of experience working on Appian development engagements.
  • 4–5 years of experience leading Appian software development teams.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Engineering, or another relevant technical field.
  • Demonstrated experience with database technologies and enterprise system integrations.
  • Strong experience working within Agile software development environments.
  • Advanced knowledge of Appian development, BPM best practices, process modeling, user interface design, and data modeling.
  • Appian Senior Developer (Level 3) certification is preferred.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to explain technical requirements across enterprise applications.
  • Proven ability to lead technical teams while remaining engaged in architecture, development, and solution design activities.
  • Strong mentorship and coaching capabilities.
  • Ability to evaluate emerging technologies and determine their suitability for solving technical or functional challenges.
  • Experience identifying architectural issues, assessing application changes, and understanding how individual components affect the broader solution.
  • Ability to manage project resources and assigned financial responsibilities effectively.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the flexibility to work across varied industries and complex business environments.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • CompTIA Security+ certification is required by the first day of employment. Candidates who do not currently hold the certification may obtain it after the interview process but must complete it before starting.
