Job Description

Pediatric Care Unit - Registered Nurses

Akicita Federal is hiring Registered Nurses to deliver specialized pediatric care for the Indian Health Service's Pediatric Care Unit in Chinle, AZ. You will be part of a seven-nurse team providing essential inpatient nursing services to pediatric patients in a Native American community setting. This is meaningful, hands-on clinical work where your expertise directly improves health outcomes for underserved populations.

- Provide direct bedside nursing care to pediatric inpatients, monitoring vital signs, administering medications, and responding to changes in patient condition.
- Assess and triage pediatric patients, identifying acute or emergent needs and escalating care appropriately.
- Coordinate with interdisciplinary care teamsincluding physicians, specialists, and support staffto develop and execute individualized patient care plans.
- Perform pediatric-specific procedures and interventions in accordance with evidence-based clinical standards and facility protocols.
- Document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately and in a timely manner in the electronic health record.
- Respond to pediatric emergencies using advanced life support techniques, including BLS and PALS protocols.
- Educate patients and families on care plans, discharge instructions, and health promotion strategies appropriate to pediatric populations.
- Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license valid for practice (must be maintained throughout the assignment).
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
- Experience in pediatric nursing or a pediatric care unit setting.
- Nursing degree (Associate's or Bachelor's) from an accredited program.
What sets candidates apart:
- Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Current Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) certification.
- Trauma Nurse Critical Care (TNCC) certification.
- Specialty nursing certification (e.g., CNOR, fetal monitoring, or pediatric-focused credential).
- Prior experience working in an Indian Health Service facility or providing care to Native American communities.
