Job Description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a HR Generalist based in the United States.
This is an opportunity to take meaningful ownership of core people operations within a remote-first, distributed organization. You’ll manage key areas including benefits administration, payroll data, HR systems, compliance, and employee relations. The role combines hands-on HR administration with opportunities to improve processes, strengthen controls, and make operations more scalable. You’ll work closely with Finance, HR leadership, managers, employees, brokers, and external vendors. Success requires strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and the confidence to work independently. This role is well suited to an HR professional who enjoys solving problems, improving systems, and creating a positive employee experience.
- Own new-hire benefits enrollment and annual open enrollment, serving as a key point of contact for brokers, carriers, employees, and Finance.
- Reconcile benefits enrollment and carrier billing, resolve discrepancies, manage COBRA processes, and oversee employee engagement and perks programs.
- Maintain accurate, audit-ready records of all payroll-impacting changes and partner with Finance to validate data before payroll runs.
- Support new-state payroll tax account setup, maintain compensation reporting, identify potential pay equity concerns, and provide backup payroll support when needed.
- Maintain employee and personnel data across HRIS, ATS, and related systems, including Paychex and other HR technology platforms.
- Build and run custom HRIS reports, administer ATS processes, maintain HR documentation and playbooks, and support performance reviews and workforce surveys.
- Manage employment compliance activities such as ACA, EEO-1, and Form 5500 filings, while coordinating with vendors and validating submissions.
- Lead annual handbook reviews and compliance initiatives, and maintain a multi-state contractor classification framework.
- Serve as a primary resource for employee relations matters, coaching managers through routine performance and conduct issues and escalating complex situations appropriately.
- Support workplace investigations, document findings, and help ensure HR policies are applied consistently.
- Collaborate across the HR and Finance teams, cross-train on critical processes, and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.
- 4+ years of experience in an HR Generalist or HR Operations role with hands-on responsibility for benefits administration and payroll data management.
- PHR or SHRM-CP certification required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- Hands-on experience with a full-service payroll/HRIS platform, with Paychex Flex experience strongly required.
- Working knowledge of multi-state employment compliance covering both employees and contractors.
- Experience creating and extracting custom reports from a complex HRIS environment.
- Experience with Flock, Breezy, or comparable HRIS/ATS platforms is preferred.
- Experience supporting remote or distributed teams is a plus.
- Notary Public commission, or willingness to obtain one, is preferred.
- Strong ownership mentality, with the ability to work independently and make sound decisions without close supervision.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a highly organized, accuracy-focused approach to HR administration.
- Proactive problem-solving skills and a willingness to identify improvements rather than simply follow established processes.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with employees, managers, vendors, Finance, and HR leadership.
- Ability to manage competing priorities, work efficiently, and remain calm and consistent during high-volume periods.
- A people-focused mindset, discretion, sound judgment, and genuine interest in improving the employee experience.
- Remote-first work environment with team members located across all 50 U.S. states.
- PPO and HDHP medical insurance plans, including fertility and IVF coverage, virtual visits, and mental health resources.
- Dental insurance, including orthodontia coverage.
- Vision insurance.
- HSA, FSA, LPFSA, and DCFSA options, with a $500 annual company contribution.
- 401(k) plan with immediate vesting and a 4% company contribution with each paycheck.
- Employee Assistance Program offering financial and legal assistance.
- Flexible PTO.
- Generous paid leave programs ranging from 70% to 100% of pay, for up to 90 days.
- Pet insurance discount program.
- Employee recognition initiatives, holiday gifts and bonuses, raffles, and other team-oriented perks.
- Salary range and additional benefit details are provided during the application process.
