Job Description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Sr. Lead Engineer, Integration & Automation based in the United States.
This is a senior technical leadership opportunity to define how critical enterprise systems connect across Finance, Revenue, Billing, People Technology, and Go-to-Market functions. You’ll own the technical vision for a complex integration ecosystem spanning Workday, Workato, Salesforce, Snowflake, and other SaaS platforms. The role combines enterprise architecture, hands-on engineering, technical governance, automation, and team leadership. You’ll establish standards that improve scalability, security, reliability, monitoring, and overall engineering maturity. You’ll also play a central role in advancing AI and automation initiatives and identifying opportunities with meaningful business impact. Working with distributed engineering teams and senior business stakeholders, you’ll serve as both a technical authority and a strategic partner.
- Define and maintain the enterprise integration architecture across Finance, Revenue, People Technology, Billing, and Go-to-Market, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, reliable, and aligned with engineering standards.
- Establish and enforce integration design guidelines, coding standards, SLAs, tiering frameworks, monitoring practices, and patterns for error handling, idempotency, retries, alerting, and change management.
- Lead architecture reviews for new integrations and significant enhancements, making final technical design decisions for complex initiatives.
- Evaluate integration tools, platforms, and architectural patterns, including build-versus-configure decisions involving iPaaS platforms, native connectors, APIs, and custom development.
- Audit the existing integration estate, identify technical debt and recurring failure patterns, and develop and execute a prioritized roadmap for technical hardening and modernization.
- Design, build, optimize, and maintain complex Workday Studio and Workato integrations, including EIB, Core Connectors, Document Transformation, XSLT, multi-step workflows, and major refactoring initiatives.
- Develop reusable integration components, transformation templates, and shared libraries that improve development speed, consistency, maintainability, and reliability.
- Build and maintain API-based integrations connecting Workday, Salesforce, Snowflake, Avalara, Workato, and other enterprise platforms using REST, SOAP, JSON, XML, OAuth, and event-driven patterns.
- Own integration monitoring and alerting, implementing proactive health checks and ensuring failures are identified before they materially affect stakeholders.
- Lead root cause analysis for critical integration incidents, document post-incident findings, and implement systemic improvements to prevent recurrence.
- Partner with leadership to recruit, onboard, develop, and retain integration engineering talent across distributed U.S. and international teams.
- Lead recurring integration grooming sessions to triage, scope, and prioritize new requests before they enter broader cross-functional planning.
- Serve as the senior escalation point for integration incidents and ensure critical failures receive appropriate root cause analysis and preventive follow-up.
- Build a culture of documentation, runbook discipline, knowledge sharing, and operational excellence across distributed engineering teams.
- Partner with leadership to develop and prioritize the AI and automation pipeline based on business impact and organizational value.
- Identify high-value automation opportunities and ensure production solutions are resilient, documented, monitored, and able to withstand upstream system changes.
- Act as the senior technical advisor to Finance, HR, Revenue, Billing, People Technology, and Go-to-Market stakeholders.
- Translate complex integration and architecture concepts into clear, business-oriented recommendations for non-technical audiences.
- Provide architectural guidance and capacity insights during cross-functional prioritization and planning activities.
- 8+ years of experience in enterprise integration engineering, systems architecture, or senior integration engineering roles.
- Proven hands-on expertise with Workato or a comparable iPaaS platform such as MuleSoft, Boomi, or Informatica, including designing, building, troubleshooting, and maintaining complex multi-step integrations and error-handling workflows.
- Advanced hands-on experience with Workday Studio, including EIB, Core Connectors, Document Transformation, and XSLT, with the ability to independently build and troubleshoot complex integrations.
- Strong command of integration architecture patterns, including REST and SOAP APIs, event-driven and publish/subscribe architectures, data transformation, idempotency, retry mechanisms, and dead-letter handling.
- Experience developing integrations with platforms such as Salesforce, Workday, Snowflake, or similar enterprise systems.
- Strong working knowledge of JSON, XML, XSLT, OAuth, API-based integration, and related data transformation technologies.
- Demonstrated experience providing technical leadership to distributed or offshore engineering teams, including conducting architecture and design reviews, setting technical standards, and developing engineers.
- Experience establishing or maturing integration governance frameworks, including integration tiers, design standards, SLA models, monitoring, alerting, and change management practices.
- Ability to independently assess a complex integration estate, identify technical debt and operational risks, prioritize remediation opportunities, and execute a modernization roadmap.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with both engineering teams and senior Finance, HR, and business stakeholders.
- Experience working in a SaaS, technology, or high-growth environment where agility, ownership, and cross-functional collaboration are essential.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
- Workday certification in Studio, Financials, or HCM is a plus.
- Experience with Salesforce integrations supporting Revenue, Billing, or CPQ workflows is advantageous.
- Familiarity with SQL and Snowflake for data validation, transformation troubleshooting, and Finance analytics use cases is a plus.
- Exposure to SOX-compliant environments and related integration documentation, controls, and audit requirements is beneficial.
- Experience building an integration practice from the ground up or leading a significant integration maturity transformation is a strong advantage.
- Familiarity with Workday Orchestrate or event-driven automation capabilities within the Workday ecosystem is a plus.
