HPTLC Chemist
Location: Farmingdale, NJ
Employment Type: Full-Time/On Site
Schedule: Mon-Thurs: 8:30 am – 4:30 pm, Fri: 8 am – 2 pm
Pay Rate: $75,000-$85,000

Position Summary
The HPTLC Chemist performs analytical testing of raw materials, botanical ingredients, and finished nutraceutical products using High-Performance Thin-Layer Chromatography (HPTLC). This position ensures accurate testing, documentation, and compliance with cGMP, approved methods, SOPs, and quality requirements.
Key Responsibilities
• Perform HPTLC testing for identification and authentication of botanical raw materials, extracts, and finished dietary supplement products.
• Prepare samples, reference standards, reagents, mobile phases, and derivatization solutions according to approved analytical methods.
• Operate HPTLC equipment, including automated sample applicators, development chambers, derivatization equipment, and documentation/imaging systems.
• Evaluate chromatographic fingerprints and compare samples against authenticated reference standards or established specifications.
• Document laboratory testing accurately and contemporaneously in accordance with Good Documentation Practices (GDP) and laboratory procedures.
• Review and interpret analytical results and ensure testing meets established specifications and acceptance criteria.
• Perform testing according to USP, AOAC, validated internal methods, compendial methods, and other approved procedures, as applicable.
• Support method verification, validation, transfer, optimization, and troubleshooting of HPTLC analytical methods.
• Investigate atypical, out-of-specification (OOS), and out-of-trend (OOT) results in accordance with established procedures.
• Maintain HPTLC instruments and laboratory equipment, including routine cleaning, calibration checks, preventive maintenance coordination, and instrument logbooks.
• Maintain accurate records for standards, reagents, chemicals, samples, and laboratory supplies.
• Follow laboratory safety requirements and proper chemical handling and disposal procedures.
• Assist with preparation for FDA, customer, certification, and internal audits by maintaining complete and audit-ready laboratory documentation.
• Participate in CAPA, deviation, change-control, and continuous-improvement activities when applicable.
• Collaborate with Quality Assurance, R&D, Manufacturing, Regulatory Affairs, and other departments to investigate quality or analytical issues.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and cGMP-compliant laboratory environment.
• Perform additional analytical testing or laboratory duties as assigned.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Food Science, Biology, or related scientific field.
• 2–5 years of analytical laboratory experience, preferably in nutraceutical, dietary supplement, pharmaceutical, food, or botanical manufacturing.
• HPTLC/TLC laboratory experience preferred.
• Experience with botanical ingredients and dietary supplements is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of cGMP, laboratory documentation, OOS investigations, and analytical testing requirements.
• Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, data integrity, and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, regulated manufacturing environment.
