Mechanical Engineer Intern- Summer 2027 in Elkhorn, Wisconsin at READER PRECISION SOLUTIONS

Job Summary: Reader Precision Solutions (RPS) in Elkhorn, WI is seeking a motivated college student to join our team as an Industrial Engineering Intern for Summer 2027. This internship provides hands-on experience applying mechanical engineering concepts within a precision manufacturing environment, with an emphasis on mechanical design, prototyping, manufacturing processes, equipment, and continuous improvement.

The intern will work alongside Engineering, Production, and other areas of the business to develop designs, troubleshoot production challenges, and identify practical solutions to manufacturing needs. The internship will also include exposure to production operations and the opportunity to complete meaningful engineering projects from concept through implementation.

Schedule: This position will be 40 hours a week, 6:30am – 3:00 pm Monday – Friday.

Pay Rate: $22.00 per hour

Essential Duties & Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Assist with the design, development, and implementation of mechanical solutions for manufacturing applications.
• Utilize CAD software to create and modify mechanical designs, models, and drawings.
• Assist with prototype builds and testing to evaluate engineering concepts and solutions.
• Collaborate with manufacturing employees and leaders to troubleshoot production and equipment challenges.
• Develop and refine processes related to part handling and movement throughout production.
• Support mechanical design projects from initial concept and drawings through implementation.
• Assist with identifying and implementing improvements to manufacturing equipment, tooling, and processes.
• Evaluate existing equipment and processes and recommend opportunities for improvement.
• Support quality and process improvements to help ensure components are produced to established standards.
• Work collaboratively with Engineering, Production, Quality, and other departments to develop practical solutions.
• Communicate engineering ideas, findings, and recommendations to team members and project stakeholders.
• Participate in a variety of engineering and continuous improvement projects throughout the organization.
• Complete an internship project and present findings, recommendations, and results to the Engineering team

• Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related engineering field.
• Experience or coursework involving CAD software preferred.
• Basic understanding of mechanical design principles and engineering drawings preferred.
• Familiarity with manufacturing processes, machining, tooling, or mechanical systems is a plus.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and interest in understanding how machines and equipment operate.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to apply engineering concepts to practical, real-world manufacturing challenges.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with employees across Engineering, Production, Quality, and other departments.
• Self-motivated, dependable, curious, and eager to learn.
• Comfortable working in both an office and active manufacturing environment.

• The incumbent will work in both office and manufacturing environments.
