Driver/Material Runner in Taylor, Michigan at Cyprus Point Construction

The Driver / Material Runner is responsible for supporting daily construction operations by safely transporting materials, tools, equipment, and supplies between vendors, company facilities, and active job sites. This position helps keep projects running efficiently by ensuring crews receive the materials and equipment they need in a timely manner.

Key Responsibilities:

• Pick up and deliver construction materials, tools, equipment, and supplies to job sites as directed.
• Make material runs to suppliers, hardware stores, warehouses, and other vendors.
• Verify materials and quantities when picking up orders to ensure they are correct before leaving the supplier.
• Obtain and maintain receipts, packing slips, invoices, and other documentation associated with purchases and deliveries.
• Communicate with project managers, supervisors, office staff, and field crews regarding material needs, deliveries, shortages, or incorrect orders.
• Load, secure, transport, and unload materials safely to prevent damage or injury.
• Assist with moving tools and equipment between job sites when needed.
• Keep company vehicles clean, organized, and in good working condition.
• Perform basic vehicle inspections and promptly report maintenance or safety concerns.
• Follow assigned schedules and prioritize deliveries based on job-site needs.
• Maintain awareness of changing project needs and be prepared to make additional or emergency material runs when necessary.
• Follow all company safety procedures, traffic laws, and job-site requirements.
• Assist with general job-site or warehouse duties when material runs are not required.
• Maintain a professional attitude when interacting with customers, vendors, subcontractors, and other employees.

Position Expectations:

The Driver / Material Runner must be dependable, organized, and able to manage multiple requests throughout the workday. Because construction schedules can change quickly, the employee should communicate effectively with the office and field teams and be able to adjust priorities when needed.

The employee is expected to handle company vehicles, materials, tools, receipts, and purchasing documentation responsibly and accurately. Safe driving and safe material-handling practices are required at all times.

Typical Requirements:

• Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
• Ability to safely operate assigned company vehicles/trailer/machines.
• Ability to lift, carry, load, and unload construction materials and equipment.
• Ability to follow directions and accurately complete assigned pickups and deliveries.
• Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills.
• Basic knowledge of construction materials and tools is preferred but may be learned on the job.
• Ability to work independently while maintaining communication with supervisors and project teams.
