Job Description:
Join a team developing cutting-edge laser hardware for spaceflight applications and other mission-critical national programs. As a Junior Solid-State Laser Systems Technician, you will support the hands-on assembly, preparation, and testing of advanced optical and laser subassemblies used in next-generation photonics systems.
This role focuses on hands-on build support, mechanical and optical subassembly preparation, laboratory organization, and assisting engineering staff and senior technicians with ongoing prototype and production-related activities. The position is well suited for an early-career technician or hands-on individual interested in precision laboratory and hardware assembly work.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with assembly and preparation of laser and optical subassemblies
- Perform precision mechanical assembly, cleaning, fastening, cable routing, and hardware preparation tasks
- Support installation of optical components, mounts, brackets, and related hardware under supervision
- Clean, inspect, and prepare optical and mechanical components for integration
- Assist senior technicians and engineers during system builds and integration activities
- Support basic optical alignment activities as directed
- Perform routine measurements, visual inspections, and documentation of completed work
- Maintain laboratory cleanliness, tooling organization, and inventory of assembly materials
- Follow established procedures for handling optics, precision components, and laser hardware
- Support prototype builds where procedures or hardware configurations may evolve
- Accurately record build notes, part usage, and assembly status
Job Requirements:
Minimum Requirements
- 0–3 years of hands-on technical, assembly, laboratory, manufacturing, or related experience
- Good mechanical aptitude and comfort working with small precision hardware and tools
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and work carefully in a laboratory environment
- Strong attention to detail, cleanliness, and organization
- Reliable work habits and ability to work collaboratively with technical staff
Education
- Associate degree, or equivalent hands-on experience
- Military technical experience or trade school backgrounds are welcome
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with precision mechanical assembly or clean handling practices
- Exposure to laboratory, optics, electronics, or photonics environments
- Familiarity with hand tools, microscopes, torque tools, or measurement equipment
- Experience documenting assembly work or following work instructions
- Ability to support repetitive build and preparation tasks with consistent workmanship
