Job Description
This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for an Engineering Manager (Insurance) in the United States.
This role sits at the heart of a mission-critical insurance infrastructure team powering access to more affordable and transparent mental healthcare. You will lead a high-performing engineering team responsible for building and scaling the systems that translate complex insurance data into real-time answers about coverage, eligibility, and cost. The work directly impacts millions of patients and tens of thousands of providers who rely on accurate insurance information to access care. You will operate in a fast-paced, product-driven environment where engineering excellence, reliability, and thoughtful system design are essential. This is a leadership role with deep technical involvement, where you will actively participate in architecture decisions, design reviews, and key implementation choices. You will partner closely with product and cross-functional leaders to shape roadmaps and ensure system coherence across the broader platform. The environment values ownership, technical credibility, and a strong bias toward building scalable, dependable systems.
- Lead and grow an engineering team, including hiring, coaching, and developing engineers while fostering a strong, collaborative, and high-performance culture.
- Own a core surface area of the insurance platform, co-developing the roadmap with product management and ensuring delivery of high-impact initiatives.
- Drive technical direction, including system architecture, design decisions, reliability standards, and engineering best practices.
- Ensure operational excellence across services, including incident response, on-call readiness, and long-term system stability.
- Partner cross-functionally with teams across insurance operations, billing, payer integrations, and data platforms to ensure end-to-end system consistency.
- Lead efforts to build scalable systems that manage insurance data, benefits logic, claims workflows, and downstream corrections.
- Balance execution and strategy by remaining technically engaged through design reviews, code understanding, and selective hands-on contributions.
- Continuously improve engineering processes to support predictable delivery in high-stakes, production-critical environments.
- 3–5+ years of experience as a software engineer with strong hands-on system-building experience in production environments.
- 2+ years of engineering management experience, ideally in scaling teams or transitioning from tech lead to management.
- Strong background in designing and operating distributed systems, APIs, or data-driven platforms at scale.
- Experience building services and infrastructure relied upon by multiple teams or external systems.
- Solid technical judgment in system reliability, failure modes, and trade-offs between build vs. buy decisions.
- Ability to actively participate in technical design discussions and remain close to implementation details.
- Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to give clear, empathetic, and actionable feedback.
- Experience in healthcare, insurance, payments, or other regulated, high-reliability environments is a strong plus.
- Familiarity with operational tooling, support workflows, or automation of complex human processes is beneficial.
- Comfortable evaluating or collaborating on data systems, automation, or applied ML where relevant.
- Competitive base salary with potential equity grant based on role level and experience.
- Comprehensive health coverage including medical, dental, and vision insurance.
- Equity participation providing long-term ownership in the organization’s growth.
- Flexible PTO policy, plus company holidays and seasonal breaks.
- 401(k) retirement savings plan.
- Remote-friendly work environment with support for distributed teams.
- Therapy reimbursement and mental health support benefits.
- Home office stipend and work-from-home support.
- Parental leave and fertility benefits for eligible employees.
- Learning and professional development resources to support career growth.
