This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a VP, Account Director (Pharma Agency, Market Access) based in the United States.

This senior leadership role offers the opportunity to drive strategic client partnerships and shape impactful healthcare communications within a highly specialized pharmaceutical agency environment. The successful candidate will lead key client accounts, ensuring excellence in strategy, execution, and business growth across complex, multi-channel marketing initiatives. Acting as a trusted advisor to senior-level stakeholders, you will guide brand planning, market access strategies, and integrated campaign execution while maintaining strong financial and operational performance. This role blends strategic leadership, client relationship management, and team development in a fast-paced, collaborative setting. You will also play a critical role in identifying and supporting new business opportunities and expanding long-term client partnerships. Ideal for a seasoned agency leader, this position requires both commercial acumen and deep healthcare marketing expertise.

Accountabilities:
  • Lead and oversee key pharmaceutical client accounts, ensuring strategic alignment, operational excellence, and delivery of high-quality marketing and communications solutions.
  • Develop and maintain senior-level client relationships, acting as a trusted strategic partner and advisor across brand, market access, and communications initiatives.
  • Lead annual brand planning processes, ensuring integration of market insights, competitive intelligence, and scientific/medical considerations.
  • Direct cross-functional agency teams including account, creative, strategy, and project management resources to deliver effective multi-channel campaigns.
  • Oversee account financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, profitability, and resource allocation across assigned brands.
  • Guide, mentor, and develop account teams, supporting career growth, performance management, and skills development through ongoing coaching and feedback.
  • Collaborate closely with creative and strategy teams to ensure high-quality, impactful campaign execution aligned with client objectives.
  • Ensure efficient project delivery by managing timelines, workflows, and operational processes in coordination with internal teams.
  • Identify and support new business opportunities, contributing to pitches, proposals, and organic account growth initiatives.
  • Strengthen client relationships through proactive engagement, strategic insights, and value-driven recommendations.
  • Support continuous improvement of internal processes to enhance efficiency, collaboration, and client satisfaction.

Requirements:

  • 12+ years of experience in pharmaceutical or healthcare advertising, with strong expertise in brand account leadership roles.
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in pharmaceutical advertising agencies, ideally across market access, disease awareness, or patient education campaigns.
  • Proven success managing multiple client accounts and leading large, cross-functional agency teams.
  • Strong background in digital and multi-channel marketing strategy, including planning, execution, and performance measurement.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain senior-level client relationships as a strategic partner and advisor.
  • Experience leading brand planning, budget development, and integrated campaign execution.
  • Strong new business experience, including participation in pitches, presentations, and client acquisition efforts.
  • Track record of driving organic growth and identifying strategic opportunities within existing accounts.
  • Excellent leadership, mentoring, and team development skills with experience managing senior and junior account staff.
  • Superior presentation and communication skills, with strong proficiency in developing and delivering PowerPoint presentations.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience managing account profitability, budgets, and operational efficiency.
  • Ability to travel as required for client meetings, research, and business development activities.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, Communications, or a related field required.
  • Deep understanding of the pharmaceutical and healthcare marketing landscape, including regulatory and compliance considerations.
