Lead Teacher – Preschool 3

Reports To: Program Director / Executive Director
Department: Early Childhood Education

Position Summary

The Lead Teacher – Preschool 3 is responsible for creating and maintaining a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment for three-year-old scholars. This role focuses on supporting social-emotional growth, language development, early learning skills, and school readiness through developmentally appropriate instruction, active supervision, and positive classroom management. The Lead Teacher ensures compliance with all licensing regulations and organizational standards while fostering a love of learning.

Key ResponsibilitiesClassroom Instruction & Curriculum
  • Plan and implement developmentally appropriate lessons aligned with program curriculum.
  • Support early literacy, language, math, science, creative arts, and social-emotional development.
  • Provide hands-on learning experiences that encourage exploration and discovery.
  • Maintain consistent classroom routines, schedules, and transitions.
  • Foster an engaging, structured, and nurturing learning environment.
Child Development & School Readiness
  • Promote independence, self-help skills, and positive social interactions.
  • Support language development through conversations, storytelling, songs, and literacy activities.
  • Encourage problem-solving, critical thinking, and curiosity.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the developmental needs of individual scholars.
Supervision & Safety
  • Maintain active supervision of scholars at all times.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and licensing regulations.
  • Follow all transition, emergency, and playground procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom environment.
  • Ensure scholars are supervised during meals, rest time, toileting, and outdoor activities.
Assessment & Documentation
  • Maintain accurate lesson plans, observations, and required classroom documentation.
  • Monitor and document scholar progress and developmental milestones.
  • Complete developmental assessments and portfolio documentation as required.
  • Ensure classroom postings and compliance documentation remain current.
Classroom Management & Behavior Support
  • Implement positive guidance techniques and age-appropriate behavior support strategies.
  • Foster respectful relationships and a positive classroom culture.
  • Teach and reinforce classroom expectations and routines.
  • Address challenging behaviors using program-approved practices.
Family Communication & Engagement
  • Maintain professional and positive communication with families.
  • Share information regarding scholar progress, classroom activities, and developmental milestones.
  • Foster strong partnerships between home and school.
  • Participate in family conferences and school events as required.
Compliance & Professionalism
  • Ensure classroom practices meet all licensing, accreditation, and organizational standards.
  • Maintain confidentiality of scholar and family information.
  • Participate in required trainings, meetings, and professional development activities.
  • Serve as a positive role model for scholars, families, and colleagues.

Requirements:

Qualifications

Required
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience working with preschool-aged children.
  • Knowledge of child development and developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills.
Preferred
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field.
  • Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or equivalent credential per licensing standards.
  • Experience with curriculum implementation and developmental assessments.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification.
