What’s Interesting About This Role:
The Senior Accountant, Financial Reporting & Analysis supports accounting operations and internal financial reporting through journal entries, reconciliations, variance analysis, recurring reporting, and budgeting support activities. This role requires strong accounting fundamentals, advanced Excel and data management capabilities, and the ability to work with large datasets to produce accurate, timely financial information. The role partners closely with the Financial Analyst to support ongoing reporting processes, maintain analytical tools, and assist with operational finance needs.
Position Details
Location: Remote within our service area (NC, SC, VA, WV)
Schedule: Full-Time, Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM (40 hours/week)

  • Advanced Excel skills, including IF statements, pivot tables, nested formulas, and macros

What You'll Do:

The Senior Accountant, Financial Reporting & Analysis performs a wide range of duties including, but not limited to the following:

Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Perform monthly variance analysis and provide clear, supportable explanations of results for Finance leadership and Board reporting needs.
  • Support budgeting and forecasting processes in collaboration with the Financial Analyst.
  • Prepare recurring departmental and operational financial reports.
  • Support ongoing reporting and analysis needs by organizing, maintaining, and analyzing financial datasets.
  • Assist with ad hoc reporting and analysis requests.

Data, Systems & Reporting Tools

  • Utilize advanced Excel functionality, including pivot tables, nested formulas, lookups, SUMIF logic, and large-volume data management.
  • Maintain and update reporting tools, templates, and analytical workbooks developed by the Financial Analyst and Finance team.
  • Support dashboard and reporting tool maintenance, including Power BI or similar systems.
  • Assist with process improvement efforts related to reporting efficiency, data integrity, and financial analytics.

General Ledger & Close

  • Prepare and post accurate journal entries, including accruals, reclasses, and adjustments with complete supporting documentation.
  • Reconcile assigned balance sheet accounts and resolve reconciling items timely and accurately.
  • Support monthly and annual close processes, including review and investigation of account activity.
  • Support preparation and validation of monthly and annual financial reporting packages.

Operational & Team Expectations

  • Take ownership of assigned responsibilities and follow through to resolution.
  • Apply structured problem-solving skills to new or complex issues.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment in determining when to resolve independently versus escalate.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively regarding variances, reporting results, and financial issues.
  • Maintain strong attention to detail while understanding the broader financial impact of work performed.

General Expectations

  • Adhere to affiliate policies and procedures including meetings and training requirements, ensuring punctuality and attendance, and following personnel policies.
  • Assist with other duties and projects as assigned by the Controller and CFO.
  • Foster a collaborative work environment by taking initiative, following through on tasks, and identifying solutions.
What You Bring To The Role:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited college or university plus 2 - 4 year’s accounting and/or financial reporting experience or 4 years related experience in lieu of degree.
  • Experience preparing journal entries, reconciling balance sheet accounts, supporting close processes, and performing variance analysis.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, and data analysis.
  • Proven ability to manage deadlines and produce accurate, supported work with minimal oversight.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Preferred (not required):
  • CPA or CPA candidate preferred.
  • Nonprofit accounting and/or healthcare nonprofit experience.
  • Experience in multi-entity environments.
  • Experience with MIP Fund Accounting.

Compensation Transparency
PPSAT is committed to equitable and transparent pay practices. This position is aligned within our established pay structure, with an annual salary range of $69,000–$89,000. Starting salary will be determined based on relevant experience and internal equity.
