Job Description
Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Opto-Mechanical Manufacturing Technician to join our team in the Professional, Scientific, and Technical Services industry. In this role, you will be responsible for assembling, testing, and troubleshooting complex opto-mechanical systems. The successful candidate will be able to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assemble and test opto-mechanical systems according to engineering drawings and specifications
- Troubleshoot and repair opto-mechanical systems as needed
- Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used
- Collaborate with engineers and other technicians to improve manufacturing processes
- Adhere to all safety and quality standards
- Process assembly transactions within ERP system to maintain inventory control
- Communicate frequently with team members. Openly brainstorms with team members.

Qualifications

- Associate's degree in Optics, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
- Experience with laser alignment and testing
- Experience with vacuum systems and processes
- Experience with cleanroom protocols and procedures
- Experience with ERP systems and inventory management
- Experience with ISO 9001 or similar quality management systems
Education and/or Experience
- Associate's degree in Optics, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
- Minimum of industry experience.
Other Desired Engineering Skills and Abilities
The following skills, although not required, will be considered a plus when evaluating a candidate:
- Computer Skills: Experience with Excel or Mini-Tab to capture, graph, analyze and communicate test data is preferred. Basic word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software skills are required. Demonstrated aptitude for learning new software.
- Technical - Strong technology perspective particularly related to the optics industry through prior experience.

Work Location
The primary work location for this position is QED’s main headquarters, 1040 University Avenue, Rochester, NY 14607. Applicants must reside within commuting distance of our Rochester, NY location. Relocation will not be provided for this role.
