Overview
ValSource is currently looking to identify and hire a construction safety field resource to work in our Midwest on-site in De Soto, KS. Candidates will be considered as ValSource full-time employees that will initially support a long-term initiative and Safety Program on-site in De Soto, KS and may also support a variety of different Pharmaceutical/ Biotech projects with our clients in other regions as well.
Role Summary
As Construction Safety Field Representative, you will provide owner safety oversight during construction, commissioning, qualification, and validation. You will support high-risk work planning, contractor performance, incident investigations, and corrective action closure.
This role is critical to building and sustaining our safety culture. The selected individual will conduct regular field reviews, identify hazards, and recommend corrective actions. Strong hazard-recognition skills and the ability to coach, mentor, and counsel team members are essential. This position is part of a high-visibility project and requires someone who can confidently shift between presenting to senior leadership and engaging with trade workers in the field.
Requirements:Qualifications/Experience Requirements
- BS in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, Engineering, or related equivalent work experience.
- 5+ years of Construction Safety Experience, including contractor oversight
- Training & Experience leading incident investigations.
- Time management and ability to manage deadlines on multiple projects.
- OSHA 510 required
- OSHA 500 preferred
- OSHA 30, OSHA 10
- Strong knowledge of OSHA and relevant state/local construction safety regulations
- Experience with incident investigations, RCA, CAPA, and corrective action closure
- Ability to coach, influence, and communicate with field teams and leadership
- Ability to work onsite full-time in DeSoto, KS and stop unsafe work when needed.
- Safety Program/Project leadership experience.
- Demonstrated people leader experience with effective communication and organizational skills.
- Proven history of developing and maintaining positive relations with owner’s site leadership, project management, construction management companies, workforce, and labor leadership.
- Pharmaceutical, GMP, commissioning, qualification, or regulated construction experience.
- Experience with behavior-based safety, near-miss reporting, contractor scorecards, or recognition programs.
Skills/Primary Responsibilities
- Several years of field experience as a safety representative on new construction sites.
- Several years of field experience working as a safety representative at pharmaceutical construction sites is a plus.
- Critical Thinking – Ability to identify hazards in the field and anticipate potential changes that could lead to increased risks.
- Ability to manage change safely.
- Ability to present owners safety expectations at pre-bid and bid meetings.
- Ability to promote and maintain a positive safety culture.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills at all levels from upper leadership to field level.
- Computer proficiency (i.e. Microsoft Office, Excel).
- Root Cause and CAPA development and mitigation.
- Proven organizational skills.
- Promote a “Zero Harm” environment.
Authority and Frist-Year Success Indicators:
- Authority: Stop work for imminent hazards, require corrective actions, and escalate concerns.
- First-year success: Build field relationships, support KPI reporting, and drive timely corrective action closure.
Travel Potential
It is our goal to assign people to projects that are within a commutable distance from their home.
