Job Description
- High School diploma or GED required.Must successfully complete required DSP and ID/DD training upon hire.Valid Virginia driver's license with an acceptable driving record required.
- Experience supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities preferred.Experience implementing person-centered plans and behavioral supports preferred.Experience documenting services and maintaining accurate records preferred.Experience providing personal care and community-based supports preferred.
- Knowledge of intellectual and developmental disabilities.Understanding of person-centered planning and HCBS regulations.Knowledge of positive behavior supports and non-aversive intervention techniques.Familiarity with HIPAA, Human Rights, and safety regulations.
- Strong communication and documentation skills.Ability to build positive relationships with individuals, families, and community partners.Ability to support personal care, community integration, and skill development.Sound judgment in responding to emergencies and behavioral situations.Basic computer and organizational skills.
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides training, support, and personal care services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Responsibilities include implementing person-centered service plans, assisting with daily living activities, promoting community inclusion, documenting progress, providing transportation, supporting medication self-administration, and helping individuals achieve greater independence while ensuring compliance with HCBS, Human Rights, and Medicaid requirements. The DSP works closely with the interdisciplinary team to provide compassionate, person-centered care in a safe and supportive environment.
