Job Summary:
The Maintenance Technician I is an entry-level position responsible for supporting the maintenance and reliability of production equipment, utilities, and plant infrastructure. Working under the guidance of experienced maintenance technicians and leadership, this role performs basic preventative maintenance, inspections, adjustments, and repairs while developing skills in mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
This position is ideal for someone with strong mechanical aptitude who is interested in developing a career in industrial maintenance. Previous manufacturing maintenance experience is preferred but not required.
Key Responsibilities:· Perform basic preventative maintenance tasks on production equipment and facility systems according to established procedures.
· Inspect equipment for wear, damage, leaks, loose components, and other potential problems.
· Assist experienced technicians with troubleshooting and repairing production equipment.
· Perform basic mechanical repairs and component replacements under appropriate supervision.
· Assist with lubrication, adjustments, belt and chain maintenance, bearing replacement, and other routine maintenance activities.
· Learn to identify and troubleshoot basic mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical issues.
· Assist with machine startups, changeovers, shutdowns, and equipment adjustments.
· Respond to maintenance requests and equipment breakdowns alongside experienced technicians.
· Complete assigned work orders and accurately document maintenance activities.
· Learn to read equipment manuals, diagrams, schematics, and other technical documentation.
· Follow LOTO (Lockout/Tagout), OSHA requirements, GMP requirements, and all company safety procedures.
· Maintain clean, organized, and hazard-free work areas.
· Properly use, clean, and store maintenance tools and equipment.
· Assist with equipment installations, upgrades, and improvement projects as assigned.
· Collaborate with Maintenance, Production, Quality, and Sanitation teams to support safe and efficient operations.
· Participate in technical training and demonstrate continued development of maintenance skills.
· Perform other maintenance-related duties as assigned.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):· Safety Compliance: Consistent adherence to LOTO, PPE, GMP, and other safety requirements.
· PM Completion: Timely and accurate completion of assigned preventative maintenance tasks.
· Work Order Accuracy: Complete and accurate documentation of assigned work.
· Equipment Support: Timely response to maintenance requests and effective support of senior technicians.
· Technical Development: Demonstrated progress in mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and troubleshooting skills.
· Attendance & Reliability: Consistent attendance and readiness to support assigned operations.
Requirements:Education & Experience:
· High school diploma or GED required
· Mechanical, automotive, construction, manufacturing, equipment repair, or other hands-on technical experience is preferred.
· Trade school coursework, technical certification, apprenticeship experience, or associate’s degree in industrial maintenance, mechatronics, electrical technology, or a related field is preferred.
· Willingness and ability to complete company-provided technical and safety training.
Skills & Competencies:
· Strong mechanical aptitude and interest in learning industrial maintenance.
· Basic knowledge of hand and power tools.
· Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and established maintenance procedures.
· Ability to learn mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
· Basic computer skills and ability to learn the company's maintenance/work-order systems.
· Strong attention to safety and detail.
· Ability to work effectively as part of a team and communicate equipment issues clearly.
· Ability to lift 50+ lbs., climb ladders, and work in confined spaces or at heights as required.
