Job Description
The Mechanical Tech II position is a hands-on role within the Automation Engineering team. In this position, you will be working on the integration floor to build and modify automation systems and components. This includes mechanical assembly, pneumatic assembly, basic electrical wiring, integration, troubleshooting and installation
Ideal candidates will be very comfortable working with their hands. They should be proficient in using hand tools, power tools and basic machinery (drill presses, bandsaws, etc.) to accomplish goals. They must be able to read part drawings and follow instructions. They may occasionally be asked to fabricate simple fixtures or modify tooling with little guidance. They should have an understanding of an automation system and how different parts of the system work together (mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, etc.)
This mid-level position requires attention to detail and a strong desire to produce high-quality work. In addition to being able to work independently, the Mechanical Tech II will have to work closely with other engineers and technicians
Key Responsibilities
- Follow all company safety procedures and demonstrate safe working practices
- Assemble, fabricate, integrate and install automation systems or components
- Use drawings and instructions to understand the desired result of a task
- Use hand tools, power tools and measuring tools to complete mechanical tasks
- Perform basic machining operations as needed to create or modify components
- Troubleshoot mechanical fit, alignment and assembly issues and determine practical solutions
- Inspect completed assemblies to ensure they are functioning as intended
- Complete pneumatic circuits by routing air hose and connecting components
- Follow electrical drawings to perform basic wiring of junction boxes and cables
- Work with engineers and technicians to identify problems and brainstorm solutions
- Document work progress and communicate issues and modifications that were needed to fix problems
- Organize and maintain the mechanical spare parts area (bolt bin, air fittings, etc.)
- Maintain a safe, clean and organized work area
Qualifications
- 3+ years of hands-on mechanical experience, preferably with automated systems
- Demonstrated ability to build and troubleshoot complex mechanical equipment
- Proficiency with hand tools and power tools
- Experience with measuring tools, including tape measures, calipers, micrometers and gauges
- Ability to read and interpret part drawings, assembly drawings and technical documentation
- Familiarity with basic GD&T
- Familiarity with pneumatic circuits and components
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical problems and quickly determine practical solutions
- Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work
- Ability to work independently, while also being able to collaborate with engineers and technicians
Preferred Qualifications
- Technical degree or certificate in mechanical technology, manufacturing or related field
- Experience building and integrating complex mechanical equipment or systems
- Experience with integrating automated equipment
- Experience working on basic electrical systems, including wiring and cable routing
- Experience working in a prototype or custom equipment environment
Physical and Work Requirements
- Ability to work safely in a shop and production floor environment
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, reach, and work in various positions for extended periods
- Ability to safely lift and move mechanical components and equipment as required
- Use of forklifts to move material and equipment
- Occasional travel to local machine shops, fabricators and training facilities
The pay range for this role is:
25 - 30 USD per hour(J&O Rittman)
