Position Requirements
The NAPA Anesthesia RN is responsible for:
- Performing comprehensive pre-procedure assessments
- Communicating with perioperative staff to ensure patient safety and coordination of care for each patient receiving anesthesia.
- Prepare and assist with administration of regional anesthesia throughout the perioperative settings.
Key Responsibilities:
Pre-Procedure Patient Assessment
- Generate a concise picture of the patient’s health, using the EMR to find information on surgical history, past medical history, and current health status in the pre-procedure document. This document allows the anesthesiologists to review patient information in one document and enables them to create the most effective and safe anesthesia plan of care for the patient.
- Preprocedural assessments for each patient include a thorough review of systems including all pertinent medical history, diagnostics, medications, recent labs and prior anesthesia experiences.
Communication with Perioperative Staff
- Continued communication and coordination with Assessment RNs, perioperative RN staff, staff members of the Surgical Navigation Center, and anesthesiologists throughout a patient’s perioperative experience to ensure they are safe to proceed with surgery.
- Identify and communicate potential patient risks or contraindications to anesthesia team.
Anesthesia Block
- Coordinate with anesthesiologist before block to verify if block is requested/ needed, as well as verify medications and equipment needed for block.
- Coordinate with nursing staff for preprocedural blocks. For patients receiving blocks in the OR, coordinate with OR staff and CRNA for post-induction blocks.
- Provide required equipment and medications for anesthesia block.
- Prepare and position patients for anesthesia block.
- Assist anesthesiologist during regional block placement.
- Continuously assess patient response before, during, and after block placement.
- Recognize and respond to complications (LAST, oversedation, vital sign changes, etc.).
- Adhere to safety protocols, infection control standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Document assessments, interventions, medications, and patient responses in the EMR.
Qualifications:
Maintain and possess a North Carolina RN License.
BLS and ACLS certifications.
Must be available to work 40 hours weekly Monday to Friday (Daytime).
Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
