Job Summary:

The Camp Counselor assists the Program Supervisor and Camp Leadership Team in providing a safe, engaging, and positive camp experience for participants. This position is responsible for supervising campers, leading recreational activities, supporting daily camp operations, and promoting a fun and inclusive environment while ensuring participant safety and well-being.

Duties/ Responsibilities:

  • Supervise campers daily to ensure a safe, positive, and inclusive camp environment.
  • Lead and participate in recreational activities, games, crafts, sports, field trips, and special events.
  • Assist with planning and implementing age-appropriate camp activities and weekly themes.
  • Monitor camper behavior and encourage positive participation, teamwork, and respect among campers.
  • Follow all safety procedures, emergency protocols, and District policies.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and account for campers during all activities and transitions.
  • Communicate effectively with campers, parents/guardians, co-workers, and supervisors.
  • Assist with setup, cleanup, and organization of camp supplies, equipment, and activity areas.
  • Monitor camp areas for cleanliness, organization, and safety concerns.
  • Respond appropriately to incidents, injuries, behavioral concerns, and emergencies, reporting issues promptly to supervisors.
  • Assist with field trips, swimming days, special events, and outdoor activities as assigned.
  • Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating professionalism, enthusiasm, patience, and good sportsmanship.
  • Attend required staff meetings, orientations, and training sessions.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding campers, families, and District operations.
  • Support inclusion efforts to ensure all campers have a positive camp experience.
  • Perform other related duties to support the District’s Mission and Vision.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in recreation, education, or related field preferred. Equivalent work experience may be considered.
  • Experience working in recreation, education, or program support preferred.
  • Previous experience working with children, teens, adults, or seniors in a program setting a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic computer applications.
  • Ability to adapt to changing program needs and schedules.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as required.
