Job Description

Senior Counsel, iGaming & Sportsbook

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Counsel, iGaming & Sportsbook based in Australia.

This is a strategic legal role at the intersection of iGaming, sports betting, blockchain, and rapidly evolving digital assets.
You will act as a trusted partner to Product, Engineering, and Go-to-Market teams, helping shape compliant products and business strategies.
The role combines legal expertise with commercial thinking, regulatory strategy, and hands-on problem-solving across global markets.
You will help establish regulatory frameworks, assess expansion opportunities, and navigate complex wagering requirements.
Rather than simply identifying legal constraints, you will help the business understand practical paths forward while managing risk.
The position offers significant exposure to a fast-moving, international environment where processes and frameworks are being built from the ground up.
It is particularly suited to a commercially minded lawyer with deep iGaming or sportsbook experience who enjoys operating in ambiguous, high-growth environments.

Accountabilities:
  • Develop and shape regulatory and legal frameworks supporting a blockchain-enabled iGaming, sportsbook, and casino platform.
  • Partner closely with Product and Engineering teams to help design features and workflows with regulatory and legal requirements incorporated from the outset.
  • Advise on global market expansion, including assessing jurisdictions, launch considerations, regulatory requirements, and associated risks.
  • Conduct practical legal and regulatory risk assessments that enable informed business decisions and support responsible growth.
  • Provide strategic guidance across the intersection of wagering regulations, crypto-native assets, digital products, and international expansion.
  • Serve as a commercially minded legal partner to Product, Engineering, and Go-to-Market stakeholders, helping identify practical solutions to complex issues.
  • Build and manage relationships with external legal and regulatory advisors across relevant jurisdictions.
  • Help establish scalable legal and regulatory processes for a rapidly developing business and emerging product category.

Requirements:

  • Law degree and strong professional legal foundation.
  • Deep experience in the iGaming, casino, or sportsbook industry, with a strong understanding of the regulatory and commercial environment.
  • Experience advising businesses on complex wagering, gaming, or sportsbook matters across relevant markets.
  • Strong ability to work cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, and business teams rather than operating solely within a traditional legal function.
  • Commercially oriented mindset, with the ability to balance legal and regulatory risk with business objectives and opportunities.
  • Comfortable operating in ambiguous environments where processes and frameworks may need to be developed from scratch.
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking, with the ability to assess incomplete information and provide practical, actionable guidance.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills, including the ability to influence senior and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • High level of ownership, adaptability, and execution speed in a fast-moving environment.
  • Experience working with blockchain, cryptocurrency, Web3, or crypto-native products is highly relevant to the role.
  • Strong external relationship-building skills and the ability to coordinate effectively with outside counsel across multiple jurisdictions.

Benefits:

  • Fully remote position.
  • Full-time employment.
  • Opportunity to work at the intersection of legal strategy, iGaming, sportsbook, blockchain, and digital assets.
  • Strategic partnership with Product, Engineering, and Go-to-Market teams.
  • Opportunity to help build legal and regulatory frameworks for an emerging business model.
  • Exposure to global market expansion and complex international regulatory environments.
  • High level of ownership and influence in a fast-moving, builder-oriented environment.
  • Opportunity to contribute to a new project from an early stage and help shape its legal and regulatory foundations.
  • Collaboration with external legal and regulatory advisors across global markets.
  • Opportunity to work within a well-funded organization with significant financial runway.
