About the Role:

The Medical Assistant plays a critical role in supporting healthcare providers by ensuring efficient and compassionate patient care within a clinical setting. This position involves performing a variety of clinical and administrative tasks, including taking vital signs, preparing patients for examinations, and assisting with medical procedures such as phlebotomy. The Medical Assistant is responsible for managing medical instruments and ensuring proper sterilization to maintain a safe and hygienic environment. Additionally, this role requires effective communication with patients, including Spanish-speaking individuals, to provide clear instructions and support. Ultimately, the Medical Assistant contributes to the smooth operation of healthcare services, enhancing patient outcomes and supporting Nurse Practitioners and other medical staff in delivering high-quality care.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Certification or diploma in Medical Assisting from an accredited program.
  • Proficiency in performing phlebotomy and drawing blood safely and accurately.
  • Ability to measure and record vital signs correctly.
  • Basic knowledge of medical instruments and sterilization procedures.
  • Fluency in Spanish and English to communicate effectively with diverse patient populations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working alongside Nurse Practitioners or in a similar clinical environment.
  • Certification in phlebotomy or additional clinical skills training.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Knowledge of specimen processing and laboratory protocols.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience in patient education.

Responsibilities:

  • Obtain and record patient vital signs, medical histories, and other relevant health information accurately.
  • Assist Nurse Practitioners and other healthcare providers during patient examinations and medical procedures.
  • Perform phlebotomy and other specimen collection tasks, ensuring proper labeling and handling for laboratory processing.
  • Manage and sterilize medical instruments and equipment to comply with infection control standards.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, including providing instructions and answering questions in both English and Spanish.
  • Maintain patient records and documentation in compliance with healthcare regulations and privacy standards.
  • Schedule patient appointments and coordinate follow-up care as directed by healthcare providers.

Skills:

The required skills such as Spanish fluency enable the Medical Assistant to communicate clearly with a broad patient base, ensuring understanding and comfort. Medical Assisting skills are applied daily to perform clinical tasks like taking vital signs and assisting with procedures, which are essential for patient care.
