Description:

Position Summary

The Body Shop Painter is responsible for performing high-quality vehicle refinishing work in the dealership’s collision repair center. This position prepares, matches, and applies paint coatings to repaired vehicles to restore them to manufacturer specifications and pre-accident condition. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, skilled in automotive refinishing techniques, and committed to producing high-quality workmanship in a fast-paced environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare vehicles for painting, including sanding, masking, priming, and surface preparation.
  • Mix and match paint colors to ensure accurate color matching and finish quality.
  • Apply paint coatings using spray guns and other refinishing equipment.
  • Inspect completed work for quality, consistency, and compliance with OEM standards.
  • Perform blending, touch-ups, and refinishing as needed.
  • Maintain paint booth cleanliness, equipment, and tools in proper working condition.
  • Follow all safety procedures and proper handling of chemicals and hazardous materials.
  • Coordinate with body technicians and estimators to ensure proper repair completion.
  • Document paint materials used and maintain accurate records of work performed.
  • Identify and correct surface imperfections prior to final finishing.
  • Ensure compliance with manufacturer, insurance, and dealership standards.
  • Assist in training or guiding paint helpers or apprentices as needed.
  • Perform additional duties related to collision repair and refinishing as assigned.
Requirements:

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of automotive refinishing techniques and paint systems.
  • Excellent attention to detail and color matching ability.
  • Ability to work independently and complete high-quality work efficiently.
  • Strong understanding of safety procedures and proper use of PPE.
  • Ability to read and follow repair orders and technical instructions.
  • Experience with paint mixing systems and spray equipment.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Vocational or technical training in automotive refinishing preferred.
  • Minimum of 2–5 years of automotive painting or collision repair experience required.
  • I-CAR, ASE, or manufacturer paint certifications preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent standing, bending, kneeling, and reaching.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces such as paint booths.
  • Manual dexterity for operating spray guns and refinishing tools.
  • Ability to wear respirators and other required PPE for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in varying temperatures and exposure to paint materials and chemicals.

Work Environment

Fast-paced automotive collision repair paint environment with exposure to fumes, chemicals, dust, noise, and spray booth conditions. Strict adherence to safety procedures and use of protective equipment is required. Occasional extended hours may be necessary to meet production schedules and repair deadlines.
