Position Description
The Systems Administrator III is a senior-level technical role responsible for ensuring the stability, security, and scalability of enterprise infrastructure across onpremises, cloud, and hybrid environments. This position plays a key role in critical incident resolution, infrastructure modernization, and continuous improvement initiatives. In addition to deep technical expertise, the System Administrator III serves as a mentor and technical leader, supporting the growth and development of junior administrators and contributing to the adoption of modern cloud technologies and best practices.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
- Provide technical leadership and serve as escalation point for critical incidents, including resolution and post-incident analysis
- Design, implement, and maintain secure, reliable, and high-performing on-premises, cloud, and hybrid infrastructure
- Act as a subject matter expert for assigned platforms and lead infrastructure upgrades, lifecycle replacements, and improvement initiatives
- Monitor system health, respond to alerts, and proactively identify risks and opportunities for optimization, automation, and efficiency
- Design, support, and enhance modern cloud services including Azure, Microsoft 365, identity, endpoint, and security platforms
- Apply automation and scripting to improve consistency, scalability, and operational efficiency
- Collaborate with project managers, security, application teams, and business stakeholders to deliver infrastructure solutions aligned with business needs, security, and budget
- Develop and maintain technical standards, procedures, and documentation
- Mentor and coach junior and mid-level system administrators; support onboarding, skill development, and knowledge sharing across the team
- Participate in an on-call rotation and provide after-hours support as required
Education and/or Experience
- Acceptable equivalent combination of education, experience, and certification; Bachelor of Science degree in computer science, or equivalent
- 7+ years experience in administrating and managing enterprise server systems including cloud and/or virtual solutions
- Strong knowledge and experience with PC hardware and software technology, including operating systems, expertise with Server operating systems and services including Windows 2008/2012/2016, DNS, Active Directory, and PowerShell, experience with O365, Exchange Online, Azure and Intune and basic understanding of networking protocols and processes
