Safety Assistant
Position Summary
The Safety Assistant supports the company’s safety operations by helping maintain a safe work environment, identifying and correcting workplace hazards, assisting with employee safety needs, and supporting compliance with company safety policies and procedures.
The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in safety, good communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with employees, supervisors, and management in both office and field environments.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must have either:
- Completed the OSHA 510 – Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry course; or
- An Associate degree in Occupational Safety and Health or a closely related safety field.
- Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
- Basic knowledge of workplace safety practices, hazard recognition, and OSHA requirements.
- Ability to communicate safety concerns and corrective actions clearly and professionally.
- Basic computer skills and the ability to learn safety, inspection, and dash-camera monitoring systems.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality when handling employee medical, drug-screening, incident, and disciplinary information.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous on-the-job experience in a safety-related position with civil construction.
- Experience conducting jobsite safety inspections or audits.
- Experience with incident reporting or investigations.
- Familiarity with OSHA regulations and workplace safety requirements.
- Experience monitoring vehicle dash-camera systems or other safety technology.
- Experience with PPE, safety supplies, rigging equipment, and safety inventory.
- CPR/First Aid certification is a plus.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with transporting employees to medical facilities or hospitals when required due to workplace injuries, illnesses, or other safety-related situations.
- Transport or accompany employees to approved laboratories for required drug and alcohol screenings.
- Recognize unsafe conditions and hazards on jobsites and assist in correcting or eliminating those hazards.
- Assist with incident reporting, documentation, investigations, and follow-up.
- Assist management with safety-related employee discipline and documentation when necessary.
- Monitor vehicle dash-camera systems for unsafe driving practices, company policy violations, and other rule violations.
- Conduct or assist with vehicle and equipment inspections.
- Conduct or assist with jobsite safety audits and inspections.
- Identify safety supply and rigging equipment needs and assist with ordering and maintaining inventory.
- Assist with employee safety orientations and training as needed.
- Distribute safety supplies and personal protective equipment (PPE) to employees as needed.
- Maintain accurate records related to inspections, incidents, training, safety supplies, and other safety activities.
- Communicate safety concerns, violations, and corrective actions to supervisors and the Safety Department.
- Follow up on identified safety issues to help ensure corrective actions are completed.
- Assist the Safety Department with other safety-related duties and projects as assigned.

Physical and Work Environment Requirements
- Ability to work in both office and outdoor jobsite environments.
- Ability to travel between jobsites, medical facilities, laboratories, and company locations as required.
- Ability to walk jobsites, climb stairs, and navigate uneven terrain.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions.
- Ability to lift and carry safety supplies and equipment as needed.
- Must consistently follow company safety policies and procedures and set a positive example for employees.
