Overview:
Reporting to the Program Manager, the Book Coach will be responsible for the overall implementation and monitoring of the Always Reading™ Program. The Book Coach holds the relationships with the participating classroom teachers and the participating families. They will be accountable for ensuring families on their caseload have access to eBooks via the program. The program is active during the school year (August through mid-June); the position will have no hours from mid-June through July due to school not being in session. This role will work 26-28hrs/week.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Hold a portfolio of ~22-24 classrooms
- Manage launch of the program in school districts, including on-site/ in-person support as needed/ requested by school partners
- Coordinate family participation throughout the program year and in collaboration with classroom teachers
- Provide literacy and technical training to families through training events
- Provide ongoing support to ensure family participation through standard and need-based outreach
- Partner with teachers to integrate Always Reading into the classroom curriculum
- Coordinate end-of-year activities and logistics with program leadership
- Monitor program participation and provide data analysis and intervention as required to ensure active participation of all program participants
- Document key interactions with families in program database
- Provide relationship management with key stakeholders families/caregivers, teachers, and students
- Assist with technical support and program consultation providing reading strategies and resources
- Serve as backup/coverage support for other book coaches
- Communicate and collaborate regularly with supervisor
Education and/or Experience:
Required
- Equivalent to an Associate's degree from an accredited college or university
- Four (4) years of work in the early education, early literacy, or a closely related educational field
- Experience working with and supporting children and families, particularly those from under-resourced populations.
- Experience with basic program management and evaluation
Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood education, or related field
- Bilingual, specifically English/Spanish (California) or English/Chuukese (Hawaii) fluency
Competencies:
- Strong oral presentation skills
- Strong organization skills
- Ability to work with a variety of cultural and socio-economic groups
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Computer/Technical Competencies:
- Proficient in utilizing cell phone and tablet
- Proficient in using the internet
- Basic proficiency in using Google Workspace
- Experience and comfort working with video conferencing platforms (e.g., Zoom)
- Experience working with SalesForce for case management, a plus
Physical Requirements:
- Reliable transportation to and from school sites
- Possible travel to other regions within the SF Bay Area (CA)/Hawaii islands (HI)
Additional Requirements:
- Must be able to work occasional evenings, early mornings, and/or weekends for the various trainings with the families
- Hawaii only: Inter-island travel (1-3 times per year, if applicable)
- Reliable internet and/or connectivity to run the remote program
- Ongoing access to a functioning mobile phone
Benefits (Hawaii - for employees 20+ hours)
Always Dream will pay for 100% of the medical, dental, and vision premium costs for you and any dependents, based on a pre-selected plan offered by the organization. Always Dream will continue to cover your benefits while you are on summer leave. You will receive a connectivity stipend of $25.00 each month. And after one month of employment, you will be eligible to participate in an Always Dream sponsored 401K plan with a 3% match.
Time Off - Hawaii
You will receive paid time off during our organization-wide winter closure (typically between Christmas Eve and New Year’s Day), as well as a bank of 40 hours of sick leave each fiscal year.
While we’re excited about these offerings, we do want to call out that part-time employees are not eligible for vacation time or paid holidays.
