Job Location: Waukegan, IL with some additional local travel

Hours: 40 hours per week 8 AM- 4:30 PM Monday-Friday

A Safe Place is seeking a compassionate Bilingual Legal Services Case Manager to join our team and support our mission-driven work. We are looking for someone who has a trauma-informed approach to provide crisis intervention, safety planning, and case management for clients preparing for court proceedings. Position Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Courthouse Services, the Bilingual Legal Services Case Manager, serves as a liaison between clients and the courts, State’s Attorney’s Office, law enforcement, legal aid, and other service providers while maintaining accurate client records and required state reporting. They will be responsible for conducting a needs assessment, developing a plan for orders of protection, and servicing as a liaison between the client and the legal system

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct client intake, eligibility determination, needs assessments, and required documentation using a variety of different systems.
  • Develop individualized safety and service plans and connect clients with appropriate agency and community resources.
  • Assist clients with preparing and filing Orders of Protection and other court documents.
  • Accompany and support clients during court proceedings and explain court procedures, legal terminology, and available resources.
  • Advocate for clients and coordinate with courts, law enforcement, State’s Attorney’s Office, legal aid, and other legal-system partners.
  • Provide crisis intervention, case management, referrals, and ongoing survivor-centered support.
  • Maintain accurate and timely electronic records, data entry, and statistical reporting.
  • Educate staff, interns, volunteers, law enforcement, court personnel, and the community about domestic violence and survivor needs.
  • Participate in team meetings, training, and agency activities and perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:

Qualifications:

Education & Experience

  • Fluency in English and Spanish is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in legal studies, social work, counseling, criminal justice, or a related field preferred.
  • A high school diploma/GED with 3–5 years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with clients, staff, courts, law enforcement, and community partners.
  • Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and commitment to trauma-informed, survivor-centered services.
