Function of Position:
The Department of Anthropology is seeking a part-time Archaeological Lab Technician to aid Dr. Daniel Tyree in the preparation and analysis of artifacts recovered during the annual MCC Archaeological Field School (ANT 205). Primary responsibilities include cleaning, labeling, cataloging, photographing, preserving, and conducting initial analyses on various types of historical artifacts, such as pottery, tools, bones, and more. Maintaining detailed records and databases of artifacts for further study by archaeologists and historians is required. There may also be the opportunity to assist in archaeological research by compiling and analyzing archaeological data, which could result in the presentation and/or publication of research findings.
This position may be funded through Federal Work Study (FWS) and/or departmental budgetary funds, depending on eligibility and departmental need. Federal Work Study applicants must be approved by the Financial Aid Office prior to employment consideration. If you are unsure of your FWS eligibility, please contact Financial Aid before applying. Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:
Clean, label, catalog, photograph, preserve, and conduct initial analyses of historical artifacts, including pottery, tools, bones, and other materials.
Maintain detailed artifact records and databases for archaeological and historical research.
Perform data entry and property/artifact research as needed.
Assist with compiling and analyzing archaeological data for research projects.
Support the presentation and/or publication of archaeological research findings, as opportunities arise.

Job Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
Must be currently enrolled as a student at Monroe Community College
Must maintain satisfactory academic progress and be in good academic standing
Federal Work Study eligibility is required for FWS-funded positions (must be approved by the Financial Aid Office prior to hire)
Strong communication skills
Able to prioritize tasks and maintain an organized approach to work
Can work with limited supervision
Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team
Detail-oriented with analytical skills to classify, categorize, and catalog artifacts accurately.
Has problem-solving skills to identify and address issues during the artifact analysis process.
Working knowledge of Excel
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous work in a lab setting
Experience with photography, especially while utilizing real-time computer software
Knowledge of website development using Wordpress
Interest in pursuing a degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or History
Bilingual and able to read, write, and speak Spanish, or other languages, proficiently
Additional Information:
Pay Rate: $16.00/hour
Hours per Week: Up to 20 hours/week
