Job Description

Sr Cloud Engineer | Infrastructure & Networking

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Sr Cloud Engineer | Infrastructure & Networking based in the United Kingdom.

This is a high-impact opportunity for a senior cloud infrastructure engineer to help shape the core networking and platform foundations of a rapidly scaling cloud-native environment. You will work on building and evolving large-scale, multi-region infrastructure that powers high-traffic, AI-driven workflows used by hundreds of thousands of developers. The role combines hands-on engineering in Kubernetes and cloud networking with deep architectural ownership across reliability, security, and scalability. You will contribute directly to the expansion of cloud platforms across multiple regions while reducing operational complexity and improving system resilience. Working in a highly technical, product-driven environment, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to solve complex distributed systems challenges. This is an ideal role for an engineer who enjoys building, optimizing, and scaling infrastructure that operates at significant global demand.

Accountabilities
  • Design, build, and operate scalable cloud infrastructure using Kubernetes, Terraform, and modern infrastructure-as-code practices.
  • Support and execute regional expansion initiatives as the platform scales across Azure and potentially multi-cloud environments.
  • Improve and evolve cloud networking architecture, including VPC/VNet design, peering, routing, DNS, TLS, ingress/egress, and load balancing strategies.
  • Enhance Kubernetes networking layers, including CNI, ingress controllers, and service mesh configurations in production environments.
  • Contribute to system reliability through on-call support, incident response, root cause analysis, and performance optimization.
  • Improve observability across infrastructure through monitoring, logging, alerting, and proactive performance tuning.
  • Strengthen security posture through automation, segmentation, zero-trust principles, and cloud security best practices.
  • Lead and deliver cross-functional infrastructure initiatives such as new region rollouts and platform architecture improvements.
  • Collaborate with engineering, product, security, and operations teams to define and execute infrastructure strategy.
  • Provide senior-level technical judgment on architecture decisions, scalability trade-offs, and long-term platform evolution.

Requirements

  • Strong hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud, with production-grade infrastructure ownership.
  • Proven ability to design and scale complex cloud-native infrastructure serving large user bases.
  • Deep expertise in production networking, including VPC/VNet design, routing, peering, DNS, load balancing, TLS, and traffic management.
  • Strong production experience with Kubernetes, including networking components such as CNI, ingress controllers, and service mesh.
  • Advanced proficiency in Infrastructure as Code, particularly Terraform, and modern CI/CD practices.
  • Solid understanding of distributed systems, reliability engineering, and secure infrastructure design.
  • Experience with observability tooling, including monitoring, logging, alerting, and performance optimization in production systems.
  • Strong knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, build systems, and deployment automation.
  • Security-first mindset with experience applying cloud security and infrastructure hardening practices.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with a collaborative mindset.
  • Curiosity, adaptability, and a continuous learning mindset in fast-evolving technical environments.
  • Bonus: hands-on experience with Azure and/or multi-cloud networking environments.
  • Bonus: startup or high-growth environment experience with high autonomy and ownership.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation package aligned with senior-level expertise.
  • Equity participation offering ownership in a fast-growing technology company.
  • Generous vacation allowance depending on region, supporting strong work-life balance.
  • Remote-first working model with flexible arrangements across the UK and Europe.
  • Career development budget to support learning, certifications, and professional growth.
  • Exposure to large-scale, cutting-edge cloud infrastructure and AI-driven systems.
  • High autonomy and ownership within a small, senior cloud platform team.
  • Opportunity to work on complex multi-region and scaling challenges at significant global impact.
  • Collaborative, high-trust engineering culture with strong technical ownership.
  • Access to modern tools, AI-enabled workflows, and a highly innovative engineering environment.
