Job Description

DSP Specialist FAE (Field Applications Engineer) West Region

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a DSP Specialist FAE (Field Applications Engineer) – West Region based in the United States.

This role sits at the intersection of advanced digital signal processing, FPGA architecture, and customer-facing engineering, supporting complex design engagements across high-impact industries such as aerospace, defense, and communications. You will act as a trusted technical advisor, guiding customers from early concept through production deployment of DSP-based solutions. The position focuses on accelerating adoption of high-performance FPGA platforms and ensuring successful implementation of signal processing architectures in real-world applications. You will collaborate closely with sales, engineering, and product teams to shape solutions that meet demanding performance and system requirements. The environment is highly technical, fast-moving, and centered on solving complex engineering challenges with direct business impact. This is a field-based role combining deep technical design work with strategic customer engagement across the West Region.

You will work within a leading provider of programmable hardware and innovation platforms—Altera—supporting customers as they design and deploy DSP-intensive systems at scale. The role requires both hands-on engineering depth and strong pre-sales influence, enabling you to shape technical direction while directly contributing to revenue-driving opportunities.

Accountabilities:
  • Serve as the primary technical interface for customers evaluating or deploying DSP solutions on FPGA platforms, providing architecture guidance, system-level design recommendations, and performance optimization strategies across complex signal processing applications.
  • Lead pre-sales and design-in activities by collaborating with sales and field teams to identify, qualify, and advance DSP opportunities, including delivering demos, technical presentations, and solution positioning using tools such as DSP Builder and MATLAB/Simulink workflows.
  • Support full design lifecycle execution from concept through production, troubleshooting system-level issues, and ensuring successful deployment of DSP and RF/DSP chain architectures in customer environments.
  • Develop reusable reference designs, application notes, and technical collateral to scale DSP engagement efficiency and strengthen customer enablement.
  • Contribute to DirectRF initiatives by supporting high-value aerospace, defense, and government opportunities, helping define RF + DSP architectures aligned with customer requirements.
  • Partner cross-functionally with product marketing, engineering, and internal FAEs to align technical strategy, influence roadmap decisions, and provide feedback from customer engagements.
  • Track opportunity progression, support pipeline visibility, and contribute to measurable business impact through design wins and strategic account growth.
Requirements:
  • 10+ years of experience in FPGA design, digital signal processing, or related technical fields, with strong hands-on expertise in FPGA development tools such as Quartus or similar environments.
  • Deep knowledge of DSP theory and applications, including filtering, channelization, beamforming, and RF signal chain design in high-performance systems.
  • Strong experience with modeling and development tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, Python, or C/C++, along with familiarity in DSP-centric design flows like DSP Builder or System Generator.
  • Proven background in customer-facing technical roles such as Field Applications Engineering, technical sales, or solution consulting within complex B2B or enterprise environments.
  • Experience working on RF, communications, radar, or image processing systems is highly preferred, particularly in aerospace, defense, or advanced communications domains.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to translate complex engineering concepts into clear, customer-focused value propositions.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related STEM discipline (advanced degrees preferred).
  • Willingness to travel and work across distributed customer engagements in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Benefits:
  • Competitive base salary with performance-based incentives and bonus opportunities.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage.
  • 401(k) retirement savings plan with employer contributions.
  • Paid time off, holidays, and flexible work arrangements depending on role requirements.
  • Career development opportunities within advanced FPGA, DSP, and AI-enabled system design domains.
  • Exposure to cutting-edge RF and signal processing technologies used in mission-critical applications.
  • Collaborative, innovation-driven engineering culture with strong cross-functional support.
