Responsibilities
Biomedical equipment specialist duties include: inspection, calibration, installation, maintenance, and repair of a wide variety of clinical equipment with an emphasis and training on specialty equipment such as, but not exclusively, dialysis, anesthesia, or laboratory. Works with equipment users for best resolution of issues and communicates equipment status. Maintains a clean and organized work area. Keeps complete records of work done. Assists the manager with equipment replacement recommendations. Other duties as assigned.
Skills/Other
- Demonstrated ability in effectively troubleshooting and repairing a wide variety of complex biomedical equipment systems.
- Considerable knowledge of electrical and medical safety principles.
- Ability in the interpretation and applicable of hospital codes, standards, and regulations relating to biomedical equipment in hospital environments.
- Demonstrable advanced skill in applying electric/electronic circuit theory and operating principles to effectively diagnose biomedical equipment malfunctions.
- Demonstrable knowledge and proficiency in the use of advanced electronic test and measurement instrumentation.
- Knowledge of the theories of operation, the underlying physiologic principles, and the practical, safe clinical application of biomedical equipment.
- Knowledge of basic computer theory and skill in effectively using computer systems and applications.
- Skill in the use of tools and materials involved in the repair and maintenance of biomedical equipment.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the practices, procedures, methods, tools, materials, and instrumentation associated with specialized biomedical equipment.
- Good communication skills, both oral and written.
Educational Requirements
- Associate or Bachelors degree in biomedical electronics or related, or a combination of relevant training and experience.
- Minimum of three years work experience as a BMET, with manifest advanced skills and abilities in the specialization area.
Qualifications
- Certification by the International Certification Commission for Clinical Engineering and Biomedical Equipment Technicians (preferred).
