Job Title: International Imports & Exports Supervisor

Location: Barrie, Ontario

Shift Time: 8:00am to 4:30pm (In-Office)

Terms: Permanent Full-Time

Salary: Competitive, based on experience

Reports To: Operations Manager

Salary Range: $70,000.00 to $85,000.00

Job Purpose:

To oversee the Imports & Exports departments and coordinate international imports through air, ocean, and rail.


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Support company Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) by proactively contributing to initiatives that drive strategic goals and organizational success
  • Live our company core values and support a well-organized, respectful, and service-focused work environment
  • Supervise import & export department staff workload and assist them with all aspects of their duties
  • Quote international agents and commercial clients
  • Arrange new freight for commercial clients
  • Monitor, organize & manage incoming emails to department mailbox
  • Track import & export shipments and arrange the necessary customs clearance & deliveries
  • Process charges for shipments and review any billing/charge discrepancies
  • Correspond with international agents and update them on their shipments and any questions regarding import to Canada
  • Provide direction with routing of shipments and assist team members with their routing
  • Provide support and communication with problem shipments
  • Ensure timely billing of all files
  • Assist other operations departments as needed
  • Coach, mentor, lead and develop team members to support personal growth and development I.E; fully cross train team members
  • Help resolve employee concerns, disputes and handle escalations with the support of the manager
  • Be an advocate for company initiatives
  • Participate in the development and implementation of KPI goals, objectives, policies, and priorities of the import & export departments as per management direction
  • Evaluate employee performance and provide constructive feedback
  • Enforce company policies & procedures
  • Participate and complete employee appraisals
  • Participate in onboarding new employees as needed
  • External coaching opportunities and ongoing support from management will be available to support personal and professional growth

Professional & Educational Background:

  • 10+ years in transportation or freight forwarding experience required
  • Post Secondary education in Supply Chain Management considered an asset
  • Knowledgeable in CargoWise or SoluShip considered an asset
  • Experience working with Transportation Management Systems (TMS) and EDI Systems
  • Strong knowledge of Canada & USA Customs cross border practices & procedures
  • General knowledge of container port operations, rail line operations and airline cargo terminal operations considered and asset
  • Certified and knowledgeable in Transportation of Dangerous Goods (Air, Sea, Ground) considered an asset
